Intelligent, witty, funloving . . . these are just a few words describing this week’s outstand ing student — Debbie Cortner. Hailing from Belmont, North Carolina, this brown - eyed bru nette iis one of the most out standing students on campus. Debbie, who claims the tedi ous job as editor of the PER- TELOTE, has been working on and planning the yearbook since last year and deserves much credit for the many hours she’s already put into it. Besides working on the an nual’ she still finds time to study — as a result, her name is on the Dean’s List. Debbie also participates in Kappa Chi, W.A.A., and house council. Debbie, known to her friends as “Debbie Hooey” or ‘^Cort,” is also known for her love of fun —during exams she helps to break the monotony of study- New York, New York — The Clark Gum Shuffle - played by seven bands - was the half- time feature at the University of Nevada - California State College football game on Octo ber 28. Seven high school marching bands — four from Nevada and three from California — par ticipating in “Bands ’67,” this year’s edition of the University of Nevada’s Annual High School Day, played the famous Clark Gum tune while baton twirlers danced the “Shuffle.” The Clark Gum Shuffle is the popular theme music from the Clark Gum television com mercial which has become a na tional dance craze. The commer cial is based on the Herb Al- pert song, “The Mexican Shuf fle.” ing and livens things up a bit by drawing pictures in the hall with ivory snowflakes. She loves to go ghost hunting on the Rosmian Highway and if she ever has a spare minute (which is not often), she might be found in a closet, (this is one way of getting away from it all!) Other things on Debbie’s list of favorites include Bilt- more ice-.cream, Petula Clark, and Pad ait U. N. C. Debbie plans to enter Greens boro College next year and n^- jor in religious education. If her record at Brevard is any indication of her future success, she is sure to be on the top in any of her endeavors.
