Intramural Notice
Because of the growing needs
of Brevard College, the old In
tramural Program must have
immediate improvement. The
o-ld program lacks the variety
needed to meet aU the inter
ests of Brevard’s student body
and faculty; therefore, new
sports and aotivities are being
added to the 1966-69 Intramur
al Program.
However, YOUR new pro
gram can not, and 1 repeat, can
not be successful if full partici
pation is not practiced. Through
YOUR cooperation we can make
this school year more enjoyable
and physically profitable.
The immediate problem cen
ters around partidpaition in
the new sports and activities.
These new sports and activities
are as foUows:
1. Six-mile relay race: Fall
2. Eight • ball tournament:
Fall or Winter
3. Checker and Chest Tour
naments: Winter
4. Horse Shoes: Fall-Sprihg
5. Fishing Derby: Spring
The only way thait we can
determine the extent that we
can offer any of the above is
through YOUR IMMEDIATE
RESPOiNSE. To do such, con
tact Coach Burch or Coach
Witek in the intramural office
in the gymnasium.
Also, a general meeting at
the college gymnasium will be
held to discuss the new organ
ization and administration of
the 1968 - 69 inltramural pro
gram. Every male faculty mem
ber and student interested in
intramural participation should
attend. Announcements coxKern-
ing time and date will be post
ed in the immediate future.

Gone —
But Not Forgotten
Following is an article which
appeared in the local paper in
Knoxville, Tennessee:
Thad Talley, former Fur
man standout under Coach
Chuck Rohe, is coming to U-
T as Rohe’s track assistant.
Talley is moving from Bre
vard Junior College. He will
be a part - time coach, work
ing in the mornings as a
physical education teacher
at Webb School and in the
afternoons and weekdays
with the Volunteers.
Thad, from Canton, Miss.,
started in college sports as
a football end at Ole Miss.
He switched to Hinds Junior
College and later to Furman
when his size forced him in
to track.
Talley climbed in the 880
until he was sixth - ranked
in the world. He cleared 13-6
in the pole vault with a me
tal pole and became a con
sistent winner in the high
jump, triple jump and 440.
Thad started coaching at
Tyson Junior High after a
graduate assistantship with
Rohe at U-T. He moved on
to high school and then jun
ior college where his record
was 47-11 with five confer
ence championships in six
tries.
Coach Talley, in a personal
letter to each member of the
track and cross country teams,
stated:
“It is with mixed feelings
that 1 leave. Please keep in
touch with me in the future
and resit assured that I will
help you any way I can. Just
remember that ‘Everyday is
a Beautiful Day to accomplish
your goal in life’.”
A sincere friend, a terrific
coach, and an athlete in his
own right, Coach Talley wil]
certainly be missed, but his
influence, the records he es
tablished for the teams as
eoach, atid his devotion to each
man on the teams will be felt
on the oval for years to come.
