Howard enters Brevard from Collingswood High where he was instructed on the hardwood by Coach Neil Thompson well enough to be an honorable mention All Star in the Suburban League. Howard majors in Medical Sciences and has aims inclusive of a B average and a strong floor game. Michael Doran Center; 6’ 04” 200lbs. Mike graduates to Tornado status after achieving All Con- Cross Country Wins Region X On November 2nd, Brevard College placed the first seven finishers to win the Region X Meet over Wingate College 15-50. Brevard’s Jerry Yunker took individual honors with a time of 27:11 over the 5.1 mile course. Other Brevard College places and their times were: Don Coleman 2nd 28:03; Calvin Langford 3rd 28:15; Karl Ragsdale 4th 28:43; Charles Bigson 5th 28:53; Sean Diltz 6th 29:27; and Tim Austin 7th 29:44. The hot 85 degree weather prevented any real good times on the course. Brevard College finshed the season with a 9 and 2 record. His ambition is to have a meaningful position on the basketball squad and have grades high enough to enter the major college of his choice. Thomas P. Horonzy Forward- Center: 6’ 05” 195 lbs. Better known as “Tree”, Tom enters Brevard directly from the U. S. Navy where he majored in JERRY YUNKER placed 46th on a field of 240 runners at the National Cross Country Championship in Oregon on November 9th. roundball and occupied his spare time as a meterorolgist. During his tour in the service. Tree garnered honors including All Navy and All Service, traveled abroad on the courts of South America, Hawaii, Japan, and the Phillipines while captaining five Navy squads. His high individual statistics are a scoring average of 27.8 points per game in 1969 and 17.8 rebounds a game in 1973. His ambition is to become a top notch journalist as well as graduating with honors. Tom hails from Cornado, California. Yunker Places 46th In Nationals Brevard, N, C. — Jerry Yunker, a sophomore from Lexington, Kentucky, was Brevard’s only representative in the National Cross Country Championships held in Eugene, Oregon on November 9th. Even though Brevard’s team was ranked in the top ten in the last poll, the cost was a major factor in sending only one individual to Oregon. Since Yunker was Brevard’s number one runner all year, he deserved a chance to compete at the National level. Jerry Yunker covered the 5.1 mile course in 25:44 placing him 46th out of a field of 240 runners and only 17 seconds away from being an All-American. Last year, Yunker finished 72nd. The team title was won by Southwestern Michigan with 44 points. The individual title went to Jeff Jerele of Golden Valley with a time of 24:32.3. Congratulations Little Yunker Doug Johnson Forward-Guard: 6’ 03” 185 lbs. Doug appears on our campus after starring for Millbrook High of Raleigh N. C., where he was mentored in basketball by Coach Don Hinton. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Sherrill C. Johnson and majors in Liberal Arts. Doug has the ability and smoothness to become a credited star in collegiate ranks yet must develop a stronger motivation to the game. His endeavors at Brevard include his Associate degree and spots on the tennis and basketball teams. Brian Jones Center; 6’ 05>/2” 215 lbs. The son of Watson and Claire Jones of Wake Forest, N. C., Brian is one of two returning lettermen and a co-captain. During his playing action last season, the smooth captain averaged 13.0 points and 9.0 rebounds a game while having the duty of muscle man against opposing centers, a chore he faced admirably. His basketball prowness was tutored by Coach Doug Cobbs of Frederick Military Academy which has enabled “B” to become the valuable asset he is today. This was shown last season when Brian was nominated to All- Conference. Brian is majoring in Liberal Arts and will definitely be playing at a four year institution next year. Timothy Jones Center; 6’ 06” 220 lbs. Tim is a walk-on from Coach Meyerhoff’s soccer class and hails from Vienna, Virginia, where he attended Flint Hill Prep under the direction of Darell Snyder. While in attendance, Tim averaged 11.0 points and 10.0 rebounds a game his senior year and made 2nd team honors in the Tri-State League. His major is Liberal Arts and Tim has aims to succeed at Brevard as both a student and a player. Steve Kitterman Forward: 6’ 04” 190 lbs. Steve (the Man) known about the campus as “Animal,” comes to the Tornados after instructions by Harvey Tankersle, coach of the' Eastside High basketball squad in Greenville, South Carolina. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard E. Kitterman are extremely proud of his All-Conference nomination yet still believe the best is yet to come. His goals are to score grades capable of transfer to a four year school and to be a valuable asset in the Tornados bid for a conference cham pionship. There is little doubt that the attributes Steve carry can only assist the team’s wish. David Wooten Guard: 5’ 11” 150 lbs. The son of Jack and Dorothy Wooten, Dave, of Cattlettsburg, Kentucky, in Boyd County, enters Brevard after glory filled years at Boyd County High. There he was mentored by Coach Brice Thornbury and received Honorable Mention All State, made the All-Conference team as well as the All-Area squad. His senior averages were 16.8 points, 5.0 rebounds and 7.2 assists per game. His objectives to average 3.0 or better in school, while majoring in Physical Education, and a conference championship. Coach Meyerhoff and sup porters believe “The Ken tuckian” will be the spearhead in a new 1-4 offense that could win the top spot in our league. They also believe the tobacco chewing, gutty lad will break the current assist record before half the season passes, with his ball handling wizardry.
