PEQEMBEB 10^74^ THE CLARION page seven feather Report:TornadoWarning ,n faithful regard to an old alliance, the weather bureau, this tor hereby declares a Tornado watch in effect, for whatever vicinity Coach Myerhoff rebel- rousers range. During the Tip-Off Tournament, Nov. 15 and 16, the dynamic twisters of Brevard College let it be known that this was “the team” to watch in future days, when they scrat^ ched bit, and clawed for 40 minutes, before succumbing to a taller Midland Technical College 85.82. It was a game in which our tornados, physically hit the deck played tough defense and showed a desire that has the coach claiming his present team to be his best ever. It was a night where little or nothing fell true for our chargers. Statistics show the team field goal percent was 41 per cent and but 60 per cent from the charity line. The book also tells how badly Midland outrebounded our men 51-33, but it doesn’t show the spilt blood, honor, and pride left in the cracks, that Friday night. The defeat was indeed tough to ab sorb and left many a fan hoarse and strained, but the effort shown drew those rabid spectators back to see victory Saturday over their UNC-A, 101-81. That same spirit was seen once again and resulted in smiles for team members and fans. It showed one and all that this team indeed will play to the bone for the sweet taste of vic tory, their coach, their school, and their pride. Beware people . . . It’s Tornado Season! ’.!. . . MONTREAT ANDERSON RIPPED BY TORNADOS TORNADOS SPLIT DECISIONS WITH HIWASSEE During the first full week of the 74-75 basketball campaign, the scrapping Tornados beat the Hiwassee Tigers in Boshamer Gymnasium 115-112 before losing to the Cats 127-91 in Madisonville, Tennessee. Before an excitable home crowd November 23, Coach Meyerhoff’s whirling devils completely devastated the Montreat Anderson squad in the first half 51-32. At the start of the second half, Brevard allowed a slight reconstruction before driving the victory nail home. Five players scored in double figures, led by Brian Jones’ twenty two points. The leading rebounder on the squad was Tom Horonzy who snatched 14 caroms from off the cylinder while Brian Jones added 11 rebounds. Both games were very offense minded, as the scores indicate, and included such varients as fast breaks, full court presses, and “downtown” shots. Another large factory of both games was the officials and their whistles, as 61 fouls were called here at home, and an additional 55 fouls were called in Madisonville. Leading the charge for Brevard in their home court victory was Mike Creekmore with 36 points and Tom Brown with 18 points. Brian Jones handled 22 caroms and Dave Wooten handed out 13 assists. In our loss and Tennessee, Clay Alston popped for 24 point and Mike Creekmore hit for 19 points. Bryan Jones once again led Tornado rebounders with 11 and Tom Horonzy added another ten. MIDLANDS WIN SERTOMA CLASSIC—BREVARD CON SOLATION PRIZE For the second time this season the Trjoans of Midland Technical College defeated Brevard College in the opening round of a tour nament, then continued on to capture the title. The first loss came in our own Jaycee Classic 85-82, and was followed in Columbia, S.C. at the Sertoma Classic 72-68. Both battles were nip and tuck to the wire and provided plenty of excitement. After Brevard’s elimination, the Midland group needed overtime to defeat Lees-McRae 81-80, as James Saunders, the tournament’s Most Val^uable Player, tipped in a foul shot at tempt. It was the same type play that defeated our Tornados the previous night. In the consolation game, our Tornados whirled the correct floor combinations and defenses to defeat conference foe Wingate, 88-79. Leading the offensive was Tom Horonzy with 20 points (17 rebounds), David Wooten, 19 points and Clay Alston with 15 points. The win over Wingate will not be totaled in Conference standings but will be credited to our sectional record, now at 2 and 2. Joining Saunders on the All- Tournament squad was Brevard’s own Dave Wooten. Also named were Elijan Shaw and Reginald Fielder of Lee- McRae and David Colbert of Midlands. TORNADOS WHIRL SELF DESTRUCTION AT LOUISBURG Playing with the intensity of a whirling dynamo, the warriors of Brevard College completely dominated the action for twelve minutes, compiling a sixteen point advantage, before disaster struck, when the “Hurricanes” of Louisburg College roared to life, fed by warm undercurrents of frenzied fans, they not only stifled whatever energies our Tornados had, but ripped everything from their paths and defeated them handily 99-78. TORNADOS FRIGHTEN FERRUM Nationally known Ferrum Junior College survived a courageous challenge by Brevard College to squeeze past our Tornados 84-81 in regional play at Louisburg, N.C. Coming off their worst night of the young season, the Tornados, led by Clay Alston’s leadership, gave Ferrum a genuine scare 1974-75 Brevard College Tornados BASKETBALL SCHEDULE Date Nov. 15 & Nov. 19 Nov. 21 Nov. 23 Nov. 25 & Nov. 29 & Dec. 3 Dec. 4 Dec. 7 Dec. 11 Jan. 6 Jan. 10 Jan. 11 Jan. 13 Jan. 15 Jan. 18 Jan. 21 Jan. 25 Jan. 27 Jan. 30 Feb. 1 Feb. 4 Feb. 8 Feb. 13 Feb. 15 16 Fri./ Sat. What could have been the largest upset of the season, fell short when Mike Creekmore drew two very dubious, backcourt offensive fouls, and Brian Jones was not credited with taking an assured Ferrum charge late in the game. All in fractions stated, allowed Ferrum entry onto the charity stripe and gave them the margin of victory. Other contributing factors in the loss was the absence of Steve Kitterman, hospitalized with tonsilitis and Dave Wooten, who sprained his ankle in the game against Louisburg. Tornados Whip Mitchell In JUCO Game Brevard College’s brother combination of Tony and Mike Creekmore tossed in 34 points Wednesday night, leading the Tornados to an 89-74 victory over Mitchell in Western Carolina Juco Conference play. The Tornados are now 5-5 overall, but 2-0 in the con ference while Mitchell is 1-2 overall, 0-2 in the conference. Tony Creekmore, a sophomore, forward, led Brevard with 22 points and had support from Clay Alston (15), Dave Wooten (13), Mike Creekmore and Tom Horonzy (12), and Bryan Jones (11). Jones set a school singlegame record for steals with eight. Meyerhoff Moves Into Second Season JOHN W.
