Brown.” This musical adaptation
of Charles Schultz’s comic strip
was both fast-moving and en
tertaining.
On Thursday the movie
“American Graffitti” was shown
in Dunham Auditorium. This
movie, which deals with the
antics of teenagers during the
fifties, set the mood for the next
event, a Sock Hop, in the gym on
Saturday.
Everyone donned their long
skirts, T-shirts, and bobby socks
for the hop. With music provided
by “Big WISE Sound Machine,”
students danced to the “gold ole
rock-n-roll.”
On Sunday the First Annual
Brevard College Creek Jumping
Contest was held. It was
organized and emceed by Clint
Williams, and the official
measurers were Wendy Wathall
and Margo Powell. After a few
“splashes” the winners of the
trophies were announced. The

second place going to John
Gwynn, and third to Steve
Holmes. Other participants were
Bill Bartlett, Shintuck Thomas,

To top it all off a talent show
was held in Dunham Auditorium
at 4:00. The show started with the
music of David Tedesco on piano,
Mike David on guitar, Preston
Woodruff on bass, and Kevin
Dusenbury on drums. The next
act was composed of Laura Funk
and Melissa Pauley. They sang a
few songs and Melissa ac
companied on the piano. Next in
the program was Jimmy Belk,

Russell Copeland “a pickin’ and a
grinin’ ” to Blue Grass music.

The Fine Arts Division will
present a concert in Dunham
Ldiiorium Saturday night 8:00
nm followed by a reception by
Dr. and Mrs. Davis honormg the
graduates and their parents.
Brevard, N. C. — Sue Ellen
Caldwell, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Earl H. Caldwell of Route 1,
Clyde, North Carolina, and a
sophomore at Brevard College,
Brevard, North Carolina, has
won a two-year, full-tuition
scholarship to Florida Atlantic
University, an upper-division and
graduate state univerity at Baca
Raton, Florida. Miss Caldwell
was in competition with ap
plicants from other Phi Theta
Kappa Chapters across the
nation.
Florida Atlantic has long been
interested in Phi Theta Kappa,
the national scholarship
honorary fraternity, for junior
college students. Since 1971, they
have made available a full-tuition
scholarship to each chapter in the
Florida community college. This
year, for the first time, they
have made such a scholarship
available to one outstanding Phi
Theta Kappa member from any
chapter in the nation. It was
awarded to Sue Ellen Caldwell at
the Awards Banquet of the
fraternity’s National Con
vention in Philadephia on
Friday, March 28th.
In order for Miss Caldwell to
win, Delta Pi Chapter at Brevard
College first had to nominate her
for outstanding service to the
chapter, the college, and the
community. A letter of
nomination, containing a resume
cf her service activities, was sent
to the national office of Phi Theta
Kappa together with a transcript
of her high academic record. Her
qualifications v/ere judged along
with nominations from those of
the 500 or more chapters of Phi
Theta Kappa in the country who
chose to compete, and she was
chosen the winner.
Miss Caldwell is an honor
student, works full-time in the
Brevard College library, and still
finds time to be active in the
fraternity, the college, and ths
town of Brevard. Her scholarship
was richly deserved.
