Tarver said May 1st is the deadline for applications. Scholarships, he said, are limited to those young men and women whose roots lie in the south. Applicants must also convince the Awards Committee that they firmly intend to pursue Hamlet Review The spirit of Shakespeare filled the Brevard College auditorium when the National Shakespeare Company presented Hamlet January 22, in Dunham auditorium. The performance was the first of ten programs scheduled for the Brevard College Life and Culture Series for the spring semester. The cast, made up of young professional actors, captivated the audience with their genuine acting abilities and received a powerful response from the crowd. Although the play was quite long, the actors managed to keep the audience interested and received a well-deserved ovation at the end. The performances of both K. C. Kizziah as Hamlet and Susanne Eqli as Ophelia displayed talent and versatility. The audience followed Hamlet through both his raging and romantic moments and they saw Ophelia as both charming and insane. The production was staged by Mario Silettle, formerly of the Metropolitan Opera. The com pany alternates between Hamlet and A Midsummer Night’s Dream as they appear in more than 100 cities to audiences totaling more than 250,000 during their seven-month tour. Pages Brevard Collie Enrollment Sets Record Nationally, while many colleges, especially private colleges, are experiencing enrollment declines, Brevard College continues to enroll record numbers of students. The national enrollment decline is due primarily to a significant drop in the population of college age students (18-21 year olds). The 18-21 year old population is projected to decline 18% between 1980-1990 according to the National Center for Education Statistics. Brevard College has ex perienced a steady increase in enrollment since 1972, and this Spring semester represented a record enrollment of over 600 students. The previous record enrollment for the Spring sem^ter was set in 1968. Dean McLendon, Dean of Admissions at Brevard College since 1972, projected a new record enrollment for Brevard College in the upcoming Fall semester, 1979, also. Dean McLendon commented on the increasing enrollment by saying, “Brevard College’s admissions program has been marketing oriented and carried out in such a way as to create a naturally high level of student demand for Brevard College. Brevard College has a proven record of excellence, and more and more students are seeking out only those colleges with a strong academic reputation and that are exceptionally strong in their area of academic interest.” Security Item s If you have a theft, it should be reported to a security officer.
