Members of the Brevard
College community hive become
increasingly alarmed recently
over the number of thefts oc
curring on campus. Several
students have reported thefts of
either money or valuables (with
values often in excess of 100
dollars).
Director of Security, O’Hara,
says that the vast majority of
thefts are related directly to the
negligence of students them
selves.
O’Hara added that students
should report thefts to their
resident tutors immediately, and
them to the security office as
quickly as possible.
As preventive measures.
Director O’Hara advises that
students have all valuables
registered with security so that
indentification will be possible.
Also, students should refrain
from carrying large sums of
money, as well as avoiding
leaving money or checkbooks
lying around in unlocked rooms.
O’Hara also suggests that
roommates should be more
careful in regard to whether or
not a room has been left open.
This increase in caution by
students should result in fewer
opportunities for valuables to be
stolen.
In conclusion, Director O’Hara
said that only 13 students have
registered valuables out of over
700 who lives on campus. He
stated that this lack of concern
until after something has been
stolen is the main thing which
must be changed to prevent
future crimes.
