Women’s Tennis Team To be Competitive Coach Gail Anderson’s women’s tennis team is working toward a challenging season and a group with a good team con cept. The team includes a group of new girls: Abbie Ballard, Alice Earnest, Sue Graves, Jane Preston, Loretta Edwards, and J&ymie Cartner. Coach Anderson feels the leadership and helpful ex perience will fall on the shoulders of the returning players from last year’s team. These three girls are Erin Gourley, Lorraine Scronce and Terri Smith. This year’s team is expected to be competitive, so, let’s all wish the women racqueteers good luck on their season. The Swim Club Splits It’s Two Matches by Melanie Mullins The B.C. Swim team has been “testin’ the water” this past month and the results proved successful. In a dual meet held on February 14th, Brevard won one and lost one as they beat Emery and Henry University 121 to 84, and lost to Milligan 132 to 98. Coach Belton Hammond felt that the guys did really well in the freestyle and breaststroke events and that their freestyle and medley relays were great. He also said that the girls put forth a good effort in the 100 yard in dividual medley and the breaststroke, although many could not compete due to illness. On February 19th, at a home meet, Brevard lost to Milligan 88 to 134. However, Hammond felt that overall it was the best meet they had had against Milligan and that both teams had their top swimmers competing. The meet was a lot closer and many events were lost by mere half seconds. The boys did well again in the freestyle and breaststroke events and in the relays. The girls did well again in the LM. and in the distant freestyles. It is uncertain whether the team will be competing any more this year but Hammond felt that “the club had a good swim season and that they really enjoyed the year.” He hopes it can continue.
