'B Volume 49 ®f)c Clarion Number 6 Tuesday, December 8, 1981 Twelve Brevard Students Named To 1982 Edition Of Who’s Who Dan Clay Evelyn Lewis The 1982 edition of WHO’S WHO AMONG STUDENTS IN AMERICAN JUNIOR COL LEGES will carry the names of twelve students from Brevard College who have been selected as being among the country’s most outstanding campus leaders. Campus nominating commit tees and editors of the annual directory have included the names of these students based on Minoru Hayashi Ural Glanville Rafael Gasti David Drury John Delaney fk Pete Mercier Eliiabeth Parker their academic achievement, ser- 1966 vice to the community, leader ship in extracurricular activities, and future potential. These twelve students join an elite group of students selected from more than 600 institutions of higher learning in all 50 states, The District of Columbia, and several foreign nations. Outstanding students have been honored in the annual direc tory since it was first published in Students named this year from Brevard College are: Daniel Clay, son of Mr. and Mrs. James G. Drury, Jr.; Rafael Gasti, son of Mr. and Mrs. Aniceto A. Sagastizabal of Miquel Scarborough Allison Tanner Maitland, Fla.; Ural Glanville, son of Mrs. Cathryn L. Glanville of Columbia, S.C. and Mr. Carlton R. Glanville of Ontario, Canada; Minoru Hayashi, son of Yuzo and Etsuko Haysahi of Enagun, Gifuken, Japan; Evelyn Lewis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Spencer C. Lewis of Powder Spr ings, Ga.; Peter Mercier, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Dennis Mer cier of Marietta, Ga.; Elizabeth Parker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B.C.’s Don Scarborough Named Region 10 Coach of the Year Don A. Scarborough, head soc cer coach at Brevard College, has been named Coach of the Year of the National Junior College Athletic Association Region X. Scarborough was chosen by vote of the Region X coaches and was their unanimous selection. Brevard College finished its year with a 10-8-2 record and competed against such teams as Duke University, Wake Forest • University, the University of South Carolina and NAIA top 20 powers Berry College and Cove nant College. Brevard ended its season with a 1-0 loss in the NJCAA Southeastern Sectional Tournament to undefeated An drew College after three over times. unscored upon in regional com petition. The ^ Tornados were undefeated at j. » home and were undefeated and to have earned Don Scarborough powers Berry College and Cove- nwiuc a Pops Concert Presented By Chamber Choir, Stage Band, Singers On Thursday, November 19, the Brevard Community was treated to a special concert by the Brevard College Chamber Choir, the Collegiate Singers, and Stage Band. The program was part of the Life and Culture series. The Chamber Choir began the performance with Awara Con rad, a featured soloist on “All My Trials.” Led by Conductor Lee Bratton, the choir also sang lively versions of “Higher and Higher” and “A Fifth Dimension Medley.” , After a, quick stage chanp, me concert hand, conducted by Di^ John U^hurch, laid down snap py versions of such favont^as “Little Brown Jug”, “Witch Doc tor,” and “Happy Hustler. Esiiecially entertaining was the improvisional number m which several band members got the chance to solo with theu- m- struments. The Collegiate Singers, also led by Mr. Bratton, sang en thusiastically the popular numbers “You Make Me Feel Brand New” and “It’s All Right With Me.” Susan Eastwood soloed on the funny “Crawdad Song.” The pops concert was quite entertaining, judging from au dience reaction, and was a musical treat for evep^one m the packed Dunham Auditorium. Don’t Forget East Beam’s Christmas Candelite Service Tonight At 9:30 in Auxiliary Gym David C. Taytor Norris W. Taylor of Lumberton, N.C. The CLARION wishes to con gratulate these students. Their contributions to the Brevard campus and community have in deed been outstanding. Candlelight Service Tonight It’s almost Christmas! The big “happening” on campus is East Beam’s Candlelight Service. This event is taking place tonight (Tuesday, December 8) at 9:00 p.m. in the auxiliary gym. The service is to be very informal — yes, you can wear your jeans! Students from East Beam will present the service. Everyone is invited to participate - campus, faculty, and famUy. Each dorm and the faculty members lead in singing a Christmas carol. The songs include “Joy to the World,” “What Child Is This,” “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen,” “Angels We Have Heard on High,” “It Came Upon a Midnight Clear,” “0 Gome All Ye Faithful,” “Hark the Herald Angels Sings.” Candles will be lit for various aspects of the “Brevard College Christmas Spirit.” A lot of time has been put into the planning of this occasion. The success now depends on you. East Beam has hopes of seeing this continued an nually; therefore,, its success is very important. Please be there to unite with us in this service tonight.
