Lady Tornados Tip Off Nov. 29 By Phil Monte The 1982-83 Lady Tornado Basketball season tips off November 29 with a tough match against Gardner-Webb. The team should be much quicker than last year’s, with more depth and range. Composed of 13 players, the Lady Tornados will use a new sideline break offense designed to create more quick shots. The main setback the team faces this year is the loss of sophomore Phyllis Walker, one of last year’s outstanding players. She has been benched with a knee injury until January. Crystal Stevenson and Alicia Mikell should be able to fill in at the low post positions. Also freshman Kathy Marlow and Netty Wharton look very promis ing. Coach Sunbury summed up her thoughts on this season by stating, “Every girl on this team has been working very hard, and if they keep at it the potential is there to have a winning season.” As an extra incentive for the student body to attend the games, Ms. Sunbury says there will be a $5.00 prize to any person who can make a shot from half-court dur ing half-time. Sophomore Donna Bishop practices her free-throw while sophomore Joan Keese looks on. The Lady netters will face Gardner-Webb next Monday for the season opener.
