With Each Game

With the new season just undei
way, the 1985-86 women’s soccer
team is showing their predicted
successful season by gradual im
provement od their games.
Despite the letdown of losing to
Erskine College 5-0 in the first
game, they played with great
stamina and improved the next
week losing to Erskine College by
only three points. In the game
against Warren Wilson, however.
the lady Tornados had their
first taste of victory by defeating
them by two points.
Coach Julie Johnson believes
that their biggest problem is
scoring. “We have the potential
to get to the goal, but we need to
work harder in keeping the ball
and scoring”she said.
The top players of the team are
Allison Wright, Lynn Simril, and
Annie Fisher. The top scorer of
the team is Missy Meyers. Coach
Johnson is very impressed by
Sonya Sharp, the most improved
player and Mika Tomada, the
mostvaluablebeginner. Mika has
never played soccer before and
has become a very tough stopper,
Coach Johnson would like to
take this time to thank all the en
thusiastic watchers that have
come to the games and hopes that
the support of the women’s soc
cer team will continue.

The 1985-86 men’s soccer squad
I debuted against Anderson Col-
1 lege, losing 2-1. The game was
fast-paced, intense and exciting
for the fans. “Brevard played
1 well with winning balls in the air
although more passing was need-
led.” according to Assistant
I Coach David Taylor.
Anderson’s first goal came
from a breakaway; a second goal
occurred when their midfielder
overlapped into the box, scoring
off of a rebound. Yong Song, the
central midfielder, scored the
lone goal for Brevard.
On Setember 16th, Brevard
hosted North Greenville College,
winning 8-0. Alfredo Moya had
four goals and broke the school
record of 29 career goals set by
Danny Kristmann in 1983. The
old record was broken by a penal
ty kick, the new record is now 30.
Others who scored were Larry
DeLong with one goal, and Yong
Song with two. Andrae Sanders
I scored on a penalty kick. “Even|
though the team won by a large
margin, they didn’t play as well
as they did against Anderson,"
stated Coach Taylor.
