Dean of Student Affairs Don Scar
borough affirms the good in the learning
contracts, although he admits needs work.
“It’s a good idea. We are on our way to
creating a system that will make the con
tract more functional.” Scarborough sees
a need for a better way to track violations
of Uniform Guidelines in the system.
Points are a heavy factor against students
on the contract. Uniform guidelines are en
forced very heavily, as always. Scar
borough is optimistic about the program
and what it can do. “Learning contracts
just make it harder "^o ignore your
academic responsibilities,” he said.

‘‘Hi. I am a photographer from The
Clarion and we’d like to use your picture
with an article we re printing in the up
coming issue.”
If you haven’t heard that phrase yet,
beware, because Brevard College
freshman photographer, Eric Kl
ingensmith, just might “get” you yet.
Eric, who shares Clarion photography
duties with Faculty Advisor Jock
Lauterer, began his career at Seminole
High School in Sanford, Fla. as
photographer for the school newspaper
and yearbook He also was a sports
photographer for the city paper and is
listed in Who's Who Among High School
Students.
Eric's achievements don’t stop there
though, he’s also a licensed
cardiopulmonary-resusitation instructor,
in Florida and North Carolina.
When Eric Learned CPR at the age of 11,
"his teachers felt he had great potential as a
teacher himself so they urged him towards
instnictional classes.
Now he teaches at Transylvania Com
munity Hospital and has been recently
recertified to meet the new American
Heart Association standards. He has just
been inducted by the Transylvania County
Heart Association and is now an official
t)oard member.
“If you have taken CPR in the last year
or so you need to take a refresher course,”
says Eric. “And if you haven’t had CPR
then take it—you could save a life.”
