The BC Collegiate Singers will help make the Christmas season more merry on Sunday and Monday, Dec. 6-7. They will sing Christmas carols in Dunham Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. for the annual BC Christmas Program. The program will include scripture readings by Campus Chaplain Dr. Chuck Zimmerman, traditional Christmas songs, and the lighting of the BC Christmas tree. The Collegiate Singers, along with the Show Choir and College Chorale, are under the direction of David Martin. This is Mar tin’s first year at Brevard and he says, "So far, I’ve enjoyed it.” He taught high school music for 15 years and says that ‘ college students show more responsibility and social maturity.” Martin thinks this year has been very good for BC’s vocalists. They have already performed for a Trustees’ dinner and for the First United Methodist Church in Morganton. On Monday, Nov. 30, the College Chorale performed at the Biltmore House in Asheville. Martin works with more freshmen than sophomores and says, “some come from real strong high schools — some don’t.” Martin adds, “Learning to sing is a grow ing process and takes years of continual study.” Singers must audition for Show Choir, which is made up of a three-piece ensem ble and twelve singers. Martin says that he is proud of his group this year and “I hope other people besides music majors get in volved in Collegiate Singers.” Man charged with B&E at BC by Dorsey Waldron A Brevard man has been charged with breaking and entering into a residence hall at Brevard College. On November 13, a sophomore awoke at about 5 a.m. to find a man holding her hand. Steffon L. Gash, of Brevard, was ar rested after the incident. According to Dean of Student Affairs Norm Witek, Gash broke in through the side entrance of W. Beam and walked down the hall of the first floor until he came to a door that was unlocked. Gash is a former employee of Brevard College. Witek said Gash’s motives were unclear. The victim said she woke up, yelled for her suitemates and she then ran into their room, called her RD in West Beam, who called security guard Guy Jarvis, who quickly appeared on the scene with Dean turn to page 4
