Men finish in Regionals

The Brevard College men’s soccer team
ended their season with a 3-0 loss to An
drew College in the final game of the
Southeastern Regionals, held in Deland,
Fla., on Saturday, Nov. 12.
The team was victorious on Friday with
a 5-0 win againist Hinds College from
Mississippi. Goals were scored for
Brevard by: Rusty Rogers, Bill Stevenson,
Jack Lighthiser and Juan Kincaid. Juan
scored his second goal of the game on a
penalty kick.
In order to get to the Southeastern
Regionals the men needed to win the
Region X Tournament held at Erskine Col
lege in Due West, S.C., and they did just
that. The men ended with a 2-0 victory over
Spartanburg Methodist College on Friday,
Nov. 4.
The two goals for Brevard were scored
by Todd Obourne and Kurt Lehnert. The
men then went on to win the tournament
with a victory over Anderson College on
Saturday the 5th. They ended the game
with the final score of 4-3 in overtime.
Goals againist Anderson were scored by
Eric Rasmussen, Kurt Lehnert,and Todd
Oborne. Rusty Rogers scored the winning
goal on a penalty kick during overtime.
The men had a surprisingly strong
season this year. “This was a rebuilding
year for the men’s team,” says Coach
Dave Taylor, “I didn’t expect them to do
quite as well as they did.” The men
themselves were equally suprised at how
much they have accomplish^. “We came
a long way,” says starting stopper Jorge
Lopez. The men’s team has a strong
season behind them to be proud of.
Lady Tornadoes off to good start

The Brevard College Lady Tornadoes’
basketball team traveled to Reinhart Col
lege for their first regular season game
November 11.
The Lady Tornadoes started out hot and
fast, but Reinhart College put a quick stop
to the Lady Tornadoes. The Lady Eagles of
Reinhart started to run away with the
game. By halftime the Lady Eagles had
built a 48-28 lead.
After a pep talk at halftime by Coach
Radford, the Lady Tornadoes came out to
play ball. With Tonja Barksdale, Katie
Trexler and Daphanie Bousum with three
fouls each, the team had a lot of help from
the bench. Tonja Barksdale, Katie Trexler
and Lisa Wright helped keep Brevard in
the game with 17, 14 and 14 pwints respec
tively. Jennifer Burger and Wright kept
Brevard alive on the boards with 8 and 11
rounds each. The final score was 85-65.
Brevard held Reinhart under their pre
season average of 90 points a game.
Brevard played a hard game and looks
promising to finish high in the conference.

In final action this week before
Thanksgiving Break, the Lady Tornadoes
held Walters State to a 36-36 halftime score
on Nov. 17, then were overpowered by the
Tennessee visitors, 75, 56. Katie Trexler
poured in 19 points for BC. And Coach
Radford’s women beat Montreat-Anderson .
65-53 on Nov. 15, led by Tonja Barksdale’s J
18 points.
