Student Art Show nowatColtrane Question: What do « headless man, a wire eagle and a giant chain have in com mon? Answer: They’re all part of a new art show at Brevard College. The two exhibiting artists are Mellinda Hansen and Dean Mobley, advanced art students studying under BC’s Tim Murray in a special 3-D class. Their show opened at BC’s Coltrane Art Gallery in the art building this week. Hansen, a Summerville, S.C., sophomore who works in wood and wire sculpture, has been in four shows already at Brevard College. Says Hansen, “I like sculpture because it gives me an opportunity to ‘see’ with my hands that which I can’t ‘see’ with my eyes.” Upon graduation from Brevard, Hansen hopes to transfer to Yale or Temple. Mobley, a Downey, Calif., native, says that art has kept him in school. He was reluctant about doing this, his first show, but that he decided that it was something he had to do. “I feel that I have just taken the first step,” Mobley says, “up a long stairwell that will take years of practice, patience and hard work to climb.” Clay, ceramics, cardboard and putty are the mediums Mobley in which Mobley works. The show in Coltran Art Building s gallery remains up through the month and is open during regular office hours. The public is invited. ^
