... ladies’ tennis team ended their

with an over .500 record and

The
whole lot, but the better your record the
easier the match would be. This being
the case, Brevard’s first round challenge
was Peace College which is ranked #11
in the nation. The match was tight all
the way down to the final match and
that is when the #1 doubles team of
Lori Tomlin and Tonya Costa pulled out
the last of three sets to seal the victory.
Next up for Brevard was
Spartanburg Methodist, who was ranked
#7 in the nation. The match was
practically identical to the Peace College
match, and once again it cam down to
the #2 doubles team of Heidi Fais and
Page Tarr, coming back from behind to
put Brevard in the finals versus the #4
team in the nation, Anderson College.
At singles, Melissa McIntosh and
Carrie Alter dominated their opponents
in both the Peace College match and the
Spartanburg Methodist match.
Anderson’s first four singles players
were all from a foreign country and were
too much for the Brevard women to
handle, but Amy Guffey played
extremely well at #6 singles for Brevard.
So once again, for the second time in
three years, Brevard played hard and
ended up in the runners-up column.
Coach Joe Bartlinski said, ‘The key
to the girls’ successful season was the
hard work that they put in towards the
end of the season, especially with the
help of technical trainer Dawn
Harenburg.” He finished by saying,
“They have a lot of heart, and if it
wasn’t for heart they wouldn t have been
as successful as they were.”

them better, and graduate them from
