Revenge! How sweet that word
sounds to the men’s soccer team, because
they defeated Spartanburg Methodist (5-
1) for a slim lead in the battle for the
conference championship.
Having to win by more than two
points, the Tornados responded to their
most crucial game of season. Beating the
defending national champs wouldn’t be
easy, but the Tornados found a way. Key
players for the men were Kareem Omara
and Brian Kododo. Kareem contributed
with two goals, and Brian added one goal
and one assist. Matt Millet also had a
goal.
While the Tornados were very sharp.

The Lady Tornado soccer team
finished their season with a 9-2-2 record.
Ranked fourth in the country, the ladies
go into the regional tournament and are
favored to win.
The ladies are led by their tough
defensive playing, a defense that is
ranked third in the country. Goalie,
Michelle Joyce, leads the team, having
given up only six goals in ten games.
Holly Palombi, Allison Satterthwait, and
Carina Strong led a very strong midfield.
The ladies are also strong offensively.
Sheila Best is having a great year with 17
goals and 6 assists.
The ladies finished their season with
a road trip to Atlanta where they received
a wake-up call. They tied Dekalb College
3-3 and the next day defeated Andrew
College 10-0.
The ladies will start region play on
October 30 and hopefully move on to the
District Playoffs on November 11.
GOOD LUCK LADIES!!

New Coach
Jennifer Berry

The Lady Tornados’ new coach this
year, Todd Connor, came to Brevard
College after coaching at Beloit College
in Beloit, Wisconsin
. Although we refer to Coach
Connor as a new arrival to Brevard, he
actually attended Brevard and played
men’s basketball in 1986-1988. He then
went on to Limestone College in S.C.
where he participated in soccer and
graduated with a BA in psychology.
Although a lot of his time is
dedicated to the hard work of the Lady
Tornados, the coach likes to spend his
time working with people, participating in
and watching sports, and just having fim
in the great outdoors.
offensively, their defense was even
sharper, and while the all-around
defensive effort was good, midfield was
very solid. Both the teams received four
red cards and several yellow cards.
“We kept our composure and played a
better team game to get the victory,” said
coach Schaeffer. “We’re going to need to
play that well if we are going to win the
region.” This game gives the Tornados
home field advantage in the playoffs.
Cross Country Ranked Second

The Brevard cross coimtry team
is one of rich tradition, having won an
unprecedented, six national
championships in the last fifteen years.
People say this team has a lot to live up
to and the word is, they’re doing it with
the men’s and women’s teams ranked 2nd
and 3rd, respectively, in the nation.
Conceding the team’s progress ,
coach Dave Rinker stated, “The men’s
team is right on schedule and is peaking
at the right time.” The mens’ team
completed the meet at Auburn-with a
strong 3rd place finish out of twenty-
seven teams. The impressive fact is that
they were the only junior college team in
the meet. The second meet was the state
collegiate. The team, had a fantastic
showing, finishing 3rd behind t he ACC’s
Duke Blue Devils and the North Carolina
Tarheels.
The emerging team leaders thus
far are Sophomores Bill Baldwin, Chris
Pluchos, and Jon McMillion, all of whom
are expected to produce well in the
upcoming meets.
The team will wind up its
shortened season hosting the regional
meet that they will be favored to win on
November 2. The National meet will be
on November 11 in Alford, where once
again they will be fighting for the
National Title.
Coach Rinker said that the
women’s team has run well but is in
need of a good finish at the regionals.
They are led by two up and coming
freshmen, Sunmier Calder and Jennifer
Vrobel.
Rinker seems to be optomistic
about his team. He looks for a bright
furture and yet another successful
Brevard Cross Country team.
