Campus Profiles Jo-Lynn Park: The Model Student Page 7 November 3, 1995 Heidi Rodenbaugh Campus Editor Jo-Lynn Park is from New Port Richey, Florida. She is 18 years old and the second child of what will soon be nine children. Jo-Lynn has many hobbies such as canoeing and rock climbing. She also enjoys working with people. After Finishing school at Brevard this spring, she plans to pursue a degree at either Florida State University or a school in North Carolina. She is unsure of her future occupation but has various mterests. "I am working towards a degree in Education, and I plan to work with people. Having past experience with community service and good will volun teer missions, I have taken much inter est in further pursuing short term volun- sr trips," she said. Jo-Lynn is very active on cam pus. uurmg her treshman year she was involved with SGA Representatives, student elections, and she was a Brevard Scholar. At the present time she is on Social Board, served as Homecoming chairperson, is a Brevard scholar, and is a participant in Alumni Fundraisers. Besides receiving many honors during her high school years, Jo-Lynn has also worked many service and voluntary activities outside of school. She worked 700 hours of volunteer service cleaning an airstrip in the jun gles of Papua, New Guinea. She also worked 140 hours of volunteer service in Bogota, Columbia, coordinating an orphanage and helping street children by teaching and feeding them. PTK Inducts New Members r Erica Broadway Asst. Editor On Wednesday, October 18, 11 students were inducted into Brevard College’s Delta Pi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa. Phi Theta Kappa is a national honor society for students who boast academic excellence. Guest speaker was Mr. Robert McLendon, Vice President and Dean for admissions and fmancial aid. The ceremony was followed by the pledge of new members and an official welcome by Rhuemma Miller, faculty advisor. The new members of PTK are Norma Chason, Amyi Franklin, Sharyn Ingram, Willa Kershaw, Kristin Magnuson, Stephanie Nutting, Kathleen Raymond, Kristen Scott, John Sprouse, Erin Stacy, and Lisa Trapp. Delta Pi Chapter members are active participants on our college campus as well as in regional events. Studelit Gains Seat In Asheville Orchestra Jennifer Berry Staff Writer James “Dale” McSwain, the ■wenty-year-old french:horn major from ''^rryville, NC, was just recently ^^cepted into the Asheville Symphony Orchestra. This is Dale’s third year here at Brevard as a french horn major under professor Ruth Still. Dale is also a proud member of MENC (Music Educators of North Carolina) and the Brevard Chamber Orchestra. Dale has spent his last two summers at the Brevard Music Center. He.feels that the music center “Provides an excellent orchestral experience . He hopes to fmish his bachelor degree here at Brevard College now that it has been accredited for the four year smdy of art and music. He then plans on completing his graduate work at a conservatory like New York City’s Juilliard School.
