Campus News Student Ambassadors Benefit BC The Clarion December 14, 1995 Page 3 Erica Broadway Assl. Editor Student Ambassadors play an important role in the admissions process. In the past years, sincere ambassadors have proven to be persuasive elements in a high school student’s decision to attend Brevard, or any college. There are a lot of benefits of being a student anrbassador. You can gain experience from interacting with the public. No matter what you’re majoring ill, exposure to these different opinions, values, and backgrounds is greatly beneficial. You are allowed the opportunity to assume new leadership roles and responsibilities. You have the opportunity to enliance the quality of Brevard, your future alma mater, by helping to attract well-prepared prospective students. Being a student ambassador can be very valuable when you’re seeking eniployinent in the future or campus involvement at your transfer institution. Also, having assumed a campus leadership position in college is positive in the eyes of job interviewers after school. Some of the major respons ibilities of the student ambassadors include helping with homecoming and helping with Trustee Meetings and Brevard scholars. The students assist the admissions’ counselors with one weekend on call. Durinsj these weekends of call the students give campus tours and answer any questions from a student’s point of view. The students also assist the admissions’ office and other offices when groups visit the college for homecoming, college fair. Holiday Market Successful Heidi Rodenbaugh As.si. Outdated Copiers Shelby Hepler Staff Writer Have you been taking a test or doing an assignment on a worksheet that was given to you by a teacher ? Well, if you have just been "shacked up” in your room all semester, then you probably have not heard the teachers complaining of the problems with the copies that they hand out to us. It seems that every test or worksheet has .some kind of terrible ink spot or huge black mark all over the paper. The copiers that are used in our school are somewhat outdated and overused. 1 spoke with the secretary of McLarty -Goodson and she explained to me just some of the problems the copier has. She told me that the copier does not produce consistent pages and the quality of print comes and goes in stages. I he copier that the building uses is only supposed to produce 3.000 to 4,000 copies a month. Unfortunately, that copier produces that amount each week. One reason that the copier gets so much use is because one of the other machines used to duplicate copies is also outdated. This machine is one that makes the mastei copy so that the paper can be reprinted. The machine is over 1 .S years old and is known to be on the brink. fortunately, the administration is trying to help with this problenr. The ■ administration has given the departments a proposal on what they need based on the appropriate price. The administration feels that anywhere from $.S,000 to ,S 12,000 will be needed to buy new equipment. The bad side to the problem is that there is just not enough money in the departments that utilize McLarty-Goodson to pay for the copiers. Doris Montogomery. who is over the purchasing department, hopes that the money can be found by the year’s end to help pay for the new' machines. Mrs. Montogomery said, “Hopefully the money can come from a gift or a donation that is given to the school.” The Clarion Staff Editor Jon Ostendorff Asst.
