|Auditorium, featuring music for choir,
brass ensemble, band and strings. The
Brevard College Guitar ensemble
provided prelude music in the lobby,
and the program included a rendition of
“Jesu Bambino” by faculty soloists
Harvey Miller and Patricia Robinson as

chorus of Handel’s “Messiah.” Readings
from classic Christmas literature was

and the audience was invited to join the

On Monday, December 9th, a fair
was held in the Coltrane Commons at
Brevard College.
Area merchants set up booths with
various goods for sale in hopes of
striking some student interests. The
goods being sold consisted of hemp
jewelry, candles, incense, pottery,
baked goods and crafts.
Students had the opportunity to
choose the style of hemp they wanted as
well as watch the merchant make the
jewelry for them.
Students seemed to enjoy the fair as
did the merchants, who benefitted from
experience as well. Students at
Brevard College were made aware of
some area shops and will probably
venture into town to locate them in the
future.
Tower at the College’s academic
quadrangle for Christmas carols, a tree
lighting ceremony, spiced apple cider,
and the burning of a symbolic Yule log.
The ceremony included a candle lighting
ceremony, comments of the significance
of the light during the Christmas season
by college chaplains Ernie Mills and
Courtney Sampson, and a tree lighting
ceremony which was presided over by
Brevard College President J. Thomas
Bertrand.
The evening was capped off widi
the Yule log ceremony, an ancient
Christmas tradition of burning pine
boughs in a large fire to dispel the bad
luck of last year and welcome the good
luck of the coming year. Following the
ceremony, all were mvited to stay for
cider, cookies, and singing by the fire
with Ernie Mills and friends.
