Around 2:10 a.m. on Nov.
6, three BC students allegedly
vandalized several bikes, cars
and a guitar. One student, Craig
Sampson, 19, was arrested and
charged with “injury to personal
property." All three students
were initially placed under an
interim suspension by the col
lege, and are awaiting a College
Board Hearing.
East Jones RA Mark Orr said
that he and a campus security
guard were on the second floor
of Jones when they heard what
Orr described as a loud “boom”
from the opposite side of the hall.
Orr and the security guard
rushed to the scene where a
group of students had forced
their way into another student s
room and were shouting accu
sations about stolen money.
Witnesses say Craig
Sampson, a freshman at BC, al
legedly smashed a guitar. A stu
dent at the scene who wishes
to remain anonymous said that
Sampson was not involved with
the money situation, but hav
ing heard the chaotic dispute
taking place, he and his room
mate James Woods took part.
According to court documents,
the guitar belonged to junior
Aaron Post who was not ini
tially involved with the stolen
money situation.
According to Orr, the se
curity guard called for police
backup. The police were able to
breakup the dispute. Post left
the scene when police arrived
and no arrests were made.
Campus security called the
Brevard Police a second time
that morning when they discov
ered that bikes on the porch of
Jones had been vandalized. Ac
cording to two students nearby,
Sampson was seen vandalizing
bikes with two other people.
The owners of the bikes were
not available to press charges,
but Post made a report against
Sampson who was arrested for
destroying the guitar, according
to Transylvania County court
documents.
Several vandalized cars in
the village were also later dis
covered. According to Dean
Yowell, all charges are still pend
ing and the alleged vandals,
Craig Sampson, James Woods
and Darren Christie are await
ing a College Hearing Board,
which according to the student
handbook is comprised of one
faculty member, one student and
one administrator.
Woods and Sampson have
gone home to England and
Wales respectively. Christie has
had his interim suspension lifted
as he awaits his hearing.
An Interim Suspension, ac
cording to the student hand
book, is when the Dean of Stu
dents imposes a College suspen
sion prior to the hearing before
a judicial body.
According to the student
handbook, “hearings relating to
serious violations of college poli
cies that may result in suspen
sion or expulsion will typically
require a College Hearing
Board.”
