Brevard College football
program.”
According to Collins, Poss
will do well recruiting because
Brevard’s “location, residential
environment, and academic qual
ity will be attractive to high
school seniors.” Many of these
seniors, according to Poss, will
be local athletes.
“I am looking forward to re
cruiting in the Carolinas and es
pecially western North Caro
lina,” Poss said.
“Bobby Poss is the type of
coach that young men will want
to play for, and more than that,
he is the type of man that par
ents will want their sons to play
for,” Collins said. “He has the
technical knowledge, the coach
ing skills, the experience and the
character that we were search
ing for. This is a great break for
our developing program.”
Poss holds an impressive
241-89-1 record (.730) after 28
years of coaching, and has re
ceived many honors, including
being named 2002 and 1999

“I have long thought that

Kings Creek construction ongoing
by Hunter Holmes
Staff Writer
Over the past few months the construction that has been de
veloping on King’s Creek below the last bridge, near the Barn The
ater and the maintenance building.
The creek was “re-winded” because a few years ago the creek
was straightened to make room for campus construction. This
straightening caused a problem with erosion along the banks. The
creek was slowly cutting a wider bed and in turn cutting away at
the property of home owners opposite the track field. Plans were
made to “re-wind” the creek in the fall of 2005.
The construction portion of the restoration is done, but this
does not mean the project is over. The creek’s banks still have to be
re-vegetated. Plans are to begin the bank restoration early in the
spring of 2006. For now, the exposed soil is protected with a tempo
rary grass cover.
When asked if the restoration was a success Dr. Kenneth Duke,
Chair of the Division of Environmental Studies, said, “It is too early
to determine if the restoration is reducing erosion because we have
had only one hard rain since the October.” The creek and stream-
side will be monitored closely over the next few years to see the
long term effects of the project.
