On Feb. 15 the Brevard Col
lege Resident Advisors (RA)
were given the opportunity to
meet with President Drew Van
Horn and the Dean of Students,
Sue Yowell, to ask questions
about the changes that will be

occurring in the coming semes
ters.
The first issue brought up
was the status of both Green and
Taylor Halls. The Board of Trust
ees met last week to discuss this
very matter. Green Hall will be
refurbished in the same manner
as East and West Beam. There
will be no air conditioning for the
hall as of yet.
Taylor Hall, however, will be
a much more interesting recon
struction. The first floor of the
hall will be offices, one large
apartment, and living spaces for
handicapped students. Taylor
Hall will also be redone in a more
business oriented design, com
plete with state of the art con
ference rooms and an elevator.
The second and third floors will
house men on one floor and
women on the other.
Heating costs were also
raised as a topic. Last Novem
ber, heating costs were approxi
mately $3,500. With the raise in
oil prices, the cost of heating
has escalated to over $20,000 to
heat the entire college.
Students with the status of
senior were concerned with the
fact that alumni shaping has
fallen by the way side. The Presi
dent stated that the position for
the alumni activities is currently
empty and staffing for this area
is relatively low.
Many of the 19 RAs present
expressed their discontent with
the current alcohol policy.
Yowell and Van Horn both
monthly use of the pool costs
up to $1,200, while using the
pool at the local country club
costs less than $ 100. He also said
that repairing the gymnasium
pool would cost at least $350,000,
according to the Sedexo Com
pany.
Parking may or may not be
expanded, according to Yowell
and Van Horn. However, a new
sticker color system will be
implemented next year. Each
sticker color will state where you
may park. Also, there will be new
ways of enforcing parking, such
as tire locks. When the topic of
break-in insurance and vandal
ism were brought to attention, it
was simply staled that car insur
ance was to take care of all these
incidents as the student hand
book states.
There will be an increase in
