Page 4 Matfs Take: Opinion The Clarion — September 8,2006 On the Record... Home Invasion ofthe jockish kind by Matt Rutherford Managing Editor It’s Tuesday, September 5, 2006, and I’m on my way to my dorm after a long day of classes. Things appear to be normal. It’s raining, like every Autumn in Brevard, and all is well—until banshee-like whistles fly over the Village quad followed by gruff commands shouted by coaches, which come across like a foreign language. I have no opinion or problem on the issue of football being introduced to the Brevard College environ ment—not that it would matter if I did—but, I do have a large problem when the football prac tice is in the middle of my living area destroying the peace of my outer domicile. I’m more than sure that this incident was due to the fact that the practice fields were a swamp; after all, this college is built on flood lands. However, I have to say I really do not care what the circumstances are; there should be no type of loud and obnox ious behavior in the Village quad. Our quad is meant for the people who live there to gather and have space outside to play disc golf or have some other type of social interaction, not to be trampled and ripped apart by cleats. This is comparable to a brief stint of noise and sight pol lution. The athletics should be kept where the athletics are meant to be, not under the door step of our homes. I’m curious to see what the next step of this foul domestic infringement will be. Will we wake up to coaches shouting at their athletic counterparts from our windows in the early hours of the morning? Or maybe, we’ll be treated to the pounding of cleats marching in a displeasing unison down the brick cause ways. Who knows? However, I am sure that this is totally unac ceptable and it should rectified without delay. Our homes should be just that, our homes. We’ve paid the cost of living here and I’m sure others agree that we should be able to stay in the Vil lages without the fear or dread that our green area will be infil trated by noise and mud holes. My opinion alone isn’t go ing to do much. So if any of you feel the same way as I do, please say or do something. We can’t lose what little privacy and space we have left. Respond to this and help get the point across.
