Mel Bringle and Tina McBride's Environmental Literature and The ology LINC class will be using the This Week in SGA: by Jamie Michaels Opinion Editor This week’s meeting of the House of Club Representatives was heavy- laden with budget concerns. Four clubs received approval for their budget requests of over $1000: The Outing Club was allocated $1400 for the spring semester That money will go to a rafting trip to West Virginia, a caving trip, and the ever-popular Earthshine zip-line, among other things. EC Recycles was allocated $2130 for spring semester to be used in the purchasing building materials in order to renovate recycling facili ties in the Villages. President Josh Rosen also noted the need for this issue to be raised as a physical plant need to the EC Administration. Erevard’s newest club, the Ninjutsu Club (President, Kevin George), received approval for $ 1600 to be spent on equipment and instructors, with the stipulation that if all the money was not used, it would be returned to the SGA gen eral fund. Erevard Percussion Society was awarded $2757,1300 of which will be used to help fund conference ex penses and to purchase needed in struments for the club. House members were also ap pointed to committees, including the LINC committee, ECE Coordinat ing, Academic Support, and the Safety Committee. Nacole Potts also spoke with House members urging them to par ticipate in service opportunities with the United Way and the Park at Erevard, an assisted living facil ity. BC prepares for Constitution Day program this semester So far it has worked well, Hutchinson says. "We even have access to our personal grade books," she said, "which is a trouble-free way of keep ing track of our progress in the class.” Colleges and universities across the country will arrange programs to comply with federal guidelines for recognizing Constitution Day next week. Since 2005, institutions that re ceive federal funding have been re quired to implement programs hon oring the United States Constitu tion into their curriculums during the week of Sept. 17, the date on which the document was signed 219 years ago. At EC, the Debate Society and the Erevard College Chapter of the Young Politicians of America will be sponsoring a forum in the Myers Reserve Dining Hall on Tuesday, Sept. 19 at 7:00 p.m. The forum will begin with a brief presentation from Dr. Ralph Hamlett, associate professor of po litical communications, outlining the Constitution and its importance to day. An open forum will then begin on the topic, “Resolved: The President of the United States should adhere to constitutionally delegated pow ers in declarations of wars.” Ryan Fiffick will present the opening statements for the affirma tive The First Amendment “Congress shall make no law respecting an establish ment ofreligion, or prohib iting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the fi-eedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to as semble, and to petition the governmentfor a redress of grievances. ” The Clarion needs writers and photographers to cover Brevard College events.
