Dirty Dozen brings out BC's inner cliild
by Shane Perrico
Special to the Clarion
BC received an unlikely—and
partially unwanted—treat last
Friday, when the lively New
Orleans-based Dirty Dozen
Brass Band performed in front
of a sold-out Paul Porter Center
1 say “partially unwanted” due
to the reaction of some older
community members to the
performance.
Steve MacQueen, managing
director for the Paul Porter
Center, observed more than 40
‘walkouts’ before intermission.
The majority of those who left
mid-performance, openly
expressing their personal
dissatisfaction, were senior
citizens. Steve came to the
simple conclusion that “you
can’t please everyone.”

elders, the show was a
resounding success. The band
performed effortlessly, and
with exuberant enthusiasm as
it moved from song to song,
rarely pausing for a break.
“1 think this is the best show
I’ve ever seen here” stated
Brevard College graduate and
music appreciator Kevin
Penley.
Enthusiasm on stage
culminated at the end of the
show with a massive ‘second-
line’ forming; the band marched
through the audience, and
carried a huge hne of dancing
people back onto stage with
them.
Despite some audience
members’ early abandoimient
the Dirty Dozen, the majority
made it clear that they were
more than pleased. Once the
second-line proceeded up onto
the stage, an elderly woman
began dancing with her
husband as if she were 16 again.
The woman, with a huge smile
and a lively hop, even slapped
