Page 6 OPINION The Clarion \ March 16, 2007 K. Flowers bloom across campus. Photo by Molly Carlson Spring fever has arrived on campus by Josie Guinn Opinion Editor Well, spring has finally sprung here in Brevard, and with it are all sorts of new and exciting things to talk about. The weather just happens to be one of the first things to come to mind. While we may be experiencing good weather for the moment, try not to get used to it. It’s still March and there’s a pretty good chance that we may experience some cold snaps. There fore, don’t pull out all of your tiniest outfits and put away your pants and sweaters. No one wants to hear you complain about how cold you are or see your legs turn purple. Check the weather before you dress in the morning. Another thing is the whole concept of Spring Fever We all know that it’s absolutely gor geous outside. However, you still have classes and need to attend them. If you desperately need to work on your tan, just take your home work outside. Your professors won’t appreci ate you not coming to class, and your parents certainly won’t when they see your grades at the end of the semester Spring-cleaning will soon begin having its ef fect on many people on campus, and it prob ably wouldn’t hurt for you to help out some. Instead of forcing your roommate to do every thing, try to make an effort and clean up after yourself Or if your communal trashcan is over flowing, take it out if you have a spare minute. Your roommate will thank you for it. One last thing, if you decide that you can’t handle it anymore, and absolutely must at all costs do something completely wild and crazy before you spontaneously combust, please try to be considerate. Don’t do it at 3:30 in the morning while others are trying to sleep or at times when classes are in progress. And if you must do it then, try to do it away from heavily populated areas. No need to make everyone ridiculously jealous of you. ■banners revisted by Josie Guinn Opinion Editor I spent the majority of the week debating with myself as to whether or not I was going to approach the subject of manners again. After certain events that have happened in the recent past though. I’ve decided it’s desperately needed. I’ve said it before, and I more than likely will have to say it again. Turn your cell phones off when you’re in class. Don’t sit there and text your best friend when you’re supposed to be taking notes in a lecture. It distracts the people around you, and if your professor catches you in the act, they have to disrupt class and ask you to quit. It’s quite rude for those around you who are trying to be serious students. Also, if you’re in one of the labs, try to keep the socializing to a minimum. Other students are in there are trying to do serious work and don’t need to listen to you talking with a friend about what you’re going to wear the next day. If you’re going to carry on such a conversation, be courteous and take the conversation out side. And another thing, while you may not have a problem waltzing into class 10 to 15 minutes late, I guarantee your professors do. Besides, you should care about the matter You may miss an integral piece of information in those few minutes you’re not present. If you don’t get the information, you’ll be more likely to make poorer grades on assignments and tests while ends up messing with your entire grade, and eventually your GPA. So please people, as you’re going about your business for the rest of the semester, try to show some common courtesy towards your fellow students and your professors. Manners will get you a lot further along in this world than I think most of you realize.
