After walking through the building, faculty located the source of the odor emiting from the downstairs janitor’s closet. According to faculty reports the smell seemed like it might be smoke from an electrical fire. Beth Suttles called Director of Security Stan Jacobsen to inform him of the situation. Jacobsen advised Suttles to pull the fire alarm to evacuate the building and notify the fire department. There was never any smoke or open fire, merely anelectrical smell. Maintenance personnel arrived to change the bulb, and commented that they had never seen a bulb overheat in vehicles. Fire department personnel felt that the situation was not one that would have caused any danger, but said that calling them was the correct action to take. Firefighters and Campus Security also expressed concern over people standing in close proximity to the building while the situation was being dealt with. According to Jacobsen, it is not enough to simply leave a building during a fire alarm—^you must move a safe distance away. Billingsley The i-iumanities Division hosted the first “HUM Dinner"’ of the year Sept. 27 in the Reserve Dining Room of Myers Cafeteria for students and friends of the i-iumanities. The food for this pot-iuci dinner is cooied by facuity and staff as weii as students who want to contribute. After-dinner entertainment was provided by members of new reiigious studies professor Ben Zeiier’s “Food and Reiigion” ciass. from Staff Reports Brevard College will be holding a Homecoming 5K Walk/run on Saturday, Oct. 13, with all the proceeds going to benefit a school-sponsored mission trip to Cambodia. Today is the deadline for interested students to sign up. Registration forms will be available in Myers Dining Hall, or by e-mailing Brevard College Chaplain Shelly Webb. The cost of participation in the event is $10. Students who cannot afford the entry fee are encouraged to contact Webb. The run will begin at 10 a.m. on Oct. 13 at the bell tower in front of Beam Administration building on campus.
