Saturday niglit
Event organizers urge everyone to come get lei'd

Last month, a group of students staged a
Big Band Dance with the help of the Village
Residence Hall Council. It went over so
well that the group has decided to do it
again. And this time
everybody will get
lei’d.
A student-organized
luau will take place in
the Porter Center
Amphitheater on
Saturday, May 3 from
9-12 p.m. If the
weather is inclement,
the dance will take
place at the same time
in the same location
on Monday, May 5.
According to DJ
Arggh, who will be
spiiming at the event,
the musical selection
at the event will be
eclectic, including
everything from Lil’
Jon to the Beach
Boys. The dance will
also feature a hula-
hoop competition, a
limbo contest, and the crowning of a King
and Queen of the Luau. A tiki bar will be up
and running, serving out mocktails to those
in attendance.
Dance organizers will also be handing out
leis to students who show up.
“We bought every lei that the dollar store
had,” said Arggh.
“We ’re trying our hardest to get everyone
lei’d.”
The dance is being put together totally
by students, a source of pride for Allison
Pressley, who is helping to organize the
luau.
“People seemed to enjoy that the first
dance was all student-done, so now we’re
trying to do it again, but bigger and better,”
said Pressley.

Students wanting to volunteer to help can
show up at the Porter Center at 6 p.m. for a
cookout that will be help for those helping
with the event.
“In the past, it seemed like the events that
were offered on campus, we repetitive, so
we have tried to represent the people who
don’t usually show up for those events,
and in doing that, last time we ended up
getting the whole campus” Arggh said.
“We want to get the entire campus to
come party with us.”
