Goglas let go as track coach
Ken Goglas
by Joseph Chilton
Editor in Chief
Brevard College has fired cross country and
track and field coach Ken Goglas, Athletic
Director Kim Pate confirmed via e-mail on
Thursday.
Goglas was in his second year at Brevard
College, and his firing comes at an awkward
time, as the cross country program is two meets
into the season.
According to Pate, the school will most likely
not hire a replacement for Goglas until spring.
Joe Moershbaecher, a local businessman and
2003 Brevard College graduate, has been hired
to coach the cross country teams on an interim
basis.
" Joe is very invested in the program as
an alum and wants to see it succeed. He is
excited to have an opportunity to work with
our student-athletes and to move our program
forward," said Pate, in regards to interim coach
Joe Moershbaecher
Goglas will also no longer be teaching his
Physical Education 101 classes. CoachMichael
Bayne, who teaches the other sections of that
course will take over Goglas' teaching duties.
Pate did not comment on the cause for Goglas'
dismissal, citing the school's policy of not
commenting on issues relating to personnel.
" It would not be appropriate for me to discuss
any specific details in respect of Coach Goglas'
personal privacy," Pate said.
The move continues to keep Brevard College's
coaching carousel in motion, as Goglas is the
second head coach to be let go since the end of
last school year, and the sixth in the last two
years.
Goglas was a 2004 graduate of the University
of Connecticut, where he competed with both
their cross country and track programs. He came
to Brevard prior to the 2008 season.
