The Brevard College Theatre Department
has been diving into, what is known to be,
one of the best plays ever written. Romeo
and Juliet is a story of "two star crossed
lovers", whose love forces them to "un
timely deaths". Both of these two lovers
are from feuding families who caimot push
aside their hate to see that their children
are in love.
Director Michael McCauley has studied
and performed Shakespeare and has taken
this challenge to bring Shakespeare to
Brevard, giving it an interesting twist.
The play is set in 2008, with the same two
rivahng famihes (Capulets are the Itahan
Mafia and The Montagues are the Irish
Mafia).
From interesting music (such as Death
Cab for Cutie to My Chemical Romance),
intense fight scenes, even modem costumes,
the play has new meaning and seems to
have new life being set in this time period.
It shows that the story is still relevant in
today's society.
The cast contains AJ Woody(Freshman)
as Romeo, Kelly Bone(Senior) as Juliet,
Dwight Chiles(Senior) as Friar Lawrence,
Katherine Parnell(Sophmore) as the
Nurse, BJ Wanlund as Capulet, Harmony
Whitt as Lady Capulet, Tyrome 'TA'
Arrington as Tybalt, David Bergman
as Lord Montague and Paris, Christina
Nelson as Lady Montague, Ahcia Ehas as
Mercutio, Christie Berthard as Benvoho,
Erin O'Rourke as Balthasar Adrian Wagner
as the Prince, Sara Daughtery as Friar John
and Servant, Gus Edmundson as Peter and
Montague, and Kait McConomy as the
Apothecary and a Capulet.
Tech Crew includes Set/Light Designer
Professor Kasendra Bell, Kelh Tysinger as
Stage Manager HUnter McCreary as Asst.
Stage Manager, Tony Brendel as Light
Board Operator, Alex Tompkins as Sound
Designer, and Kara Ontiveros and Dora
Berry on Costumes.
The show will run Thursday tlmi Saturday,
starting at 8:00 pm every night. Tickets for
students are $2.00, Adults $10.00 and for
Faculty and Staff, they are FREE.
So as they would say in Shakespeare's
time, "I pray come and crush a cup of
wine." And come see one of the best plays
ever written!
