H _ Slogan of the week: M I I Compact Spring Break Edition SERVING THE BREVARD COLLEGE Volume 74, Issue 20 COMMUNITY SINCE 1935 March 6, 2009 SHOW DAY? Winter weather blankets campus over the weekend by Gretchen Allie Staff Writer Many students prayed for snow Sunday night, hoping for canceled classes and a day off. Prayers were answered, and Brevard College received about an inch of snow. Students and teachers were both excited and annoyed with the snow. The campus was filled with excitement Sunday night as students played in the snow. Snowmen of interesting nature were built around campus Sunday night. One snowman, in front of Green, was “smoking” a lit cigarette. While another snowman, ironically in front of the cross on the quad, was equipped with a wiener and pubes. The creators of this particular snowman wish to remain anonymous be- In this issue... Classes were canceled because teachers couldn’t safely get to school. Beth Suttles, Lab Manager and Instructor, was snowed in for most of Monday. Although she lives five minutes away from campus, she got seven inches of snow. Because the windy road leading to her house was icy, she had to cancel a midterm for one of her classes. She said, “The snow was fun, but I worked the whole time.” The snow hit Sunday night when some students were driving back to school from trips home. Emily Belchyk, freshman, had gone back to her home in Georgia when she was hit with snow on her drive back to BC. She said that she has no experience driving in the snow, so it was scary because she could only see ten feet in front of her car and the roads were icy. Patrick Lawrence, a junior, is from Michi gan, and the little amount of snow Brevard received was not enough for him. He said, “If there’s not enough snow to build a snow castle, then there shouldn’tbe snow at all.” Photo By J. Box An anatomically correct snowman was made In front of the cross In the Town Quad. Chelsea Freeman, a freshman, on the other hand was stoked for the snow. “It was snow-tally awesome” she said. Student spring break party plans by Daniel Heyman Staff Writer MTV and stories of triple keggers have painted the same picture of spring break for most college age students. But not all Bre vard College students are giving in to spring break’s party reputation next week. Many students are using the time to visit home or just to relax, “I might spend a day or two at the beach, but I think I’m just go ing to chill heavy and kick it with the fam,” said student Jer Ber G. Rhymes. Some students are taking the time to visit their distant famihes, “Driving to Indiana over a weekend is a mearthly drive. It’ll be nice to see the moms and pops, I don’t get to often, you dig?” said student Greg Woods. In parts of Canada, spring break is called study week. Perhaps that’s a little too lame for Brevard College, but hopefully few of us will make it onto youtube with the video title “Drunk guy falls off balcony, kills himself and Lil Wayne.” Though I think many of the readers are with me when I say I hope that does happen.
