Western North Carolina blanketed with snow
Brevard and surrounding areas expecting more winter
weatlier during the rest of the winter

Another blanket of snow covers Western
North Carolina on Friday, January 29th,
leaving most of the roads in Brevard
virtually un-drivable. With almost a foot
of accumulation is some places, 1-26 as
well as other roads were forced to close
and the Red Cross even opened four
shelters to accommodate stranded drivers.
In Transylvania County alone a total of 19
auto accidents were reported, along with
several trees down including one power
line. Duke energy reported no power lost
to the area. The roads continue to ice at
night and the weather for the weekend is
expecting more sleet. For the remainder
of snow still on the ground, and the
snow accumulating Thursday night, the
opportunities are endless.
Reminder to those who sled; if you don’t
come back with a scrape or a bruise you
are not sledding hard enough! There are
pastures and hills all over Brevard as well
as the classic Ross Hall hill to shred on.
Objects that more than qualify as a sled
substitute are, inner tubes, kayaks, large
hefty bags, someone else’s body, and trash
can lids.
