WLEE 340 students working on ACA Race

This semester, students in Jenny
Kafsky’s WLEE 340 (Outdoor Program
Administration) class have been working
alongside the American Canoe Association
(ACA) to help plan an intercollegiate
paddling event in late March.
The proj ect is part of the “service learning”

undertaking
different
components
that an
administrator
would face
while planning
an event or
activity.
Thus far,
the students
planning the
event have
been busy
working on
CA
attendees.
Thus far, their hard work has paid
off. The students have
successfully recruited
racers and volunteers
from the BC student
body; additionally,
Elon University and
Warren-Wilson College
have demonstrated
interest in racing at the
event. Furthermore,
student Travis Festa has
successfully recruited
sponsorships from the
Ka^sk & Qrfoe Recreathrt
American Canoe association fonowing companies:
Astral Buoyancy
Company, Level-Six
Incorporated, WRSI,
Immersion Research
and Landmark Learning.
The race is scheduled to take place
March 27-28 on the Tuckaseegee River
in nearby Dillsboro, NC and is open to all
skill level paddlers. If you’re interested
in racing or volunteering at the event,
please contact me at climeijm@brevard.
edu or look at the ACA website (www.
recruiting other south-eastern colleges
to attend the race, recruiting volunteers
to help ensure the event runs smoothly
and recruiting sponsors to help finance
and offer prizes to racers at the event.
Additionally, the students have been
working in cooperation with several
area outfitters and businesses in order to
arrange camping or lodging for the events’

Board of Trustees' winter
meeting occurring tliis weelend
from Staff Reports
In addition to the many arts and life
related goings-on happening around
campus, one event in particular will have
a special effect on students next year This
weekend is the winter meeting for the
Board of Tmstees.
The agenda for this meeting of the
Board of Trustees includes considering
candidates from the faculty who have been
recommended for promotion and tenure.
The Board will also need to approve the
tuition and fee schedule for the 2010-2011
academic year
Following this meeting, information
will disseminated regarding promotion and
tenure, and Dean Hardt will inform students
and their famihes about whatever changes
occur in the tuition and fees for next year.
Tuition information is usually handled
within a week of the meetings.
Officers on the Board of Trustees this
year are Secretary Richard Eldridge, Vice
Chair Henry McDonald III, and Chairman
Reginald Heinitsch, Jr. The Board of
Trustees typically meets three times a
year
