7th annual White Squirrel Festival Approaches
An upcoming festival celebrating those squirrels of a certain color
promises fun and excitement

Mark your calendars for the 7th annual
White Squirrel Festival in Brevard during
May 29th -30th. This festival honors these
unique critters, the white squirrels. These
two days include music, derby race, beer
garden and much more, involving many BC
Alumni. Named as a “2009 Top 20 Event
in the Southeast’.

excitement is the launching of a new beer,
the White Squirrel Summer Lager, created
by a Brevard
College
Alumnus,
Jonathan
Cort.
Cort is a
Beer Pusher
at Craggie
Brewing in
Asheville.
The White
Squirrel
SummerLager
is a hght beer
with an orange
savor and a
pale yellow
color to it,
made of only
4.2% alcohol.
Cort wanted to
give back to the community with the unique
opportunity for Brevard to showcase the
White Squirrel Summer Lager
Other BC Alumni include John Felty, the
musical director of the festival, and Nikki
Talley who will be performing this year.
Some say the White Squirrel Festival has
been a long annual tradition in Brevard or
that White Squirrels don’t exist. Actually,
the first White Squirrel Festival began in
2003 to honor this unique animal. The
idea behind the
festival for the
white squirrel
started with
Phil Davis, an
entrepreneur
who moved
from Florida
to Brevard in
2003.
Come out
and enjoy the
annual Squirrel
Box Derby for
kids of all ages.
Derby karts of
all themes and
designs race
down Jailhouse
Hill clocking 35
mph and more.
Trophies are given for the fastest critter, the
squirrehest them, and the nuttiest design.
