Page 8 THE LAST FRONTIER The Clarion \ Sept. 2, 2011 CAB [ CAMPUS ACTIVITIES BOARD By Cassie Smatana staff Reporter On Aug. 27, 2011, Natalie Stovall and her band came to Brevard College to deliver an amazing performance in the Porter Center This concert, hosted by the Campus Activity Board (CAB), served as the official kick-off to the fall activities calendar. Stovall’s band was scheduled to play in the Porter Centers Amphitheatre, a beautiful outside stage with lawn seating. The threat of inclement weather caused by hurricane Irene interrupted the original plans and caused a change in venue. “She can rock out with the bestofthem.” says senior Maggie Whit man who has seen Natalie and her band perform “plugged in” on two different occasions. “Tm disappointed the rest of the BC didn’t get to see her in her full glory, but this was still the best concert played at Brevard because of her undeniable talent. Natalie moved into the Porter Center Scott Concert Hall, and performed an acoustic show that blew people away. A record number of 152 students showed up to this awe some performance. All in all, it was a great kick off for the year. and the grand finale of Welcome Week. This terrific performance shows the new CAB has worked hard to plan some awesome activities and there is much more to do in the weeks to come. The video game “Rock band” could be heard playing from Dunham auditorium on Saturday night, August 27, 2011. CAB hosted a “Rock Band Nighf ’ where students could come on a quiet Saturday evening and test their guitar, drum, or singing skills. While the turnout was low, the excitement was high. Free refresh ments, a CAB staple, were provided to all par ticipants. “My favorite part was beating on the drums and just hanging with people that also like the game,” says sophomore Dustin Haithcox. For those who missed the fun, you also missed out on seeing yours truly singing a fantastic rendition of Joan Jett’s “1 Tove Rock and Roll”. Come out to Dunham on October 7th at 8pm for CAB’s next “Rock band Night”. Don’t miss trivia night in the Coltrane Un derground at 8:00 Friday, September 2. Win some awesome prizes and meet some great people in an easy going and fun environment. We ask some good questions so bring your smart friends, and your thinking cap. Due to a faulty disc, CAB’s movie night for August 28th was cancelled. Pi rates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides reveals Jack Sparrows search for the Fountain of Youth.
