Page 2 Campus News The Clarion \ Sept. 9, 2011 Faculty Profile Sefiora Judy Hoxit Associate Professor of Foreign Language By Sarah Bowers staff Writer Where did you go to college? East Carolina University, Southern Methodist University University of North Carolina at Greensboro What languages can you speak? Spanish and French—though the French is pretty rusty since Fve not spoken it in 20 years—but I can still read it. Have you ever studied abroad? A semester abroad in Mexico as an undergraduate, three years in the Peace Corps, many summer language institutes in various coun tries What made you want to be a professor? I first wanted to be an actress, then a dancer, then live in a foreign coun try speaking nothing but a foreign language—tut had to be practical so I combined all three into being a teacher. What is your favorite thing about teaching? Seeing students get excited about learning Spanish and being able to use it in their career—and knowing I had played a little part in their success. How long have you been teach ing at Brevard College? This begins my 25th year. What is your favorite movie? “Rambo II.” (The reason? It’s a long explanation!) What are some of your hob bies? Dance, exercise, reading, taking care of plants, travel, preparing les sons, sewing, learning new things —all I can think of right now.
