Sept. 23, 2011 I The Clarion News Page 5 CAB hosts Pickin Parlor By Cassie Smatana staff Reporter This past weekend “Family Weekend” was great Jubali Afrika was unbelievably awesome. In attendance around 90 people came out to see these African drummers in the Porter Center and the interaction with the band was awesome. Several of my schoolmates went up on stage to dance and play on the drums. It was a great time and the music was wonderful. I met several parents over the weekend and they all seemed excited to see their student while also relieved to know he or she made it through the first few weeks of school. Friday Sept. 23th CAB will be hosting a Pickin Parlor Come to the Fire Pit in the Why you need a resume If you are a senior, you should not be asking this question. But if you are, the answer is simple: to get a J-O-B! If you are a freshman or sophomore, seeking a full time job may not be at the top of you priority list. But planning ahead for holiday & summer employment or an internship should be. Employers usually request a resume from their applicants, along with references and a cover letter When you find a position you are interested in, it is prudent to apply as soon as possible. Having a resume that is professional and complete will make this task easier Having an outline for a basic resume as an underclassman helps you see what areas you can develop during your college career: activities, internships, work experience, specific job skills, honors and awards. Examine those areas that need strengthening, and challenge yourself to build your resume prior to graduation. If you are a senior without a resume, I urge you to get started now, and don’t put it off until the week prior to graduation. A resume takes time and several revisions before it is ready for a potential employer to see. Make sure you have several people critique your resume, so you are presenting yourself in the best way possible. If you need help getting started, please attend the BUILDING YOUR RESUME session on September 29th at 6pm in MG 125. You can also make an appointment with the Office for Career Exploration & Development for a counselor to critique your resume M-TH 10am-6pm. If you have questions email a career counselor atjobs@brevard.edu or stop by the office in the AEC. Residential Quad for a killer jam session. There will be a great campfire treat, aka s’mores! This event starts at 8pm, so as Megan Walters says; bring your guitars, banjos, bongos and spoons. CAB Sunday Night Cinema: The Hangover II will be playing this Sunday in Dunham at 9pm. Don’t miss it! Talks and Topics this week, hosted my Meagan Crowson will be a discussion/ information session about what it means to be a Latino American. Bring your experiences, questions and ideas. Some classes are offering extra credit. FREE DESSERT (Latino inspired), from Blue Ridge Mountain Bakery. Intramurals ping pong tournament finished Wednesday night with Ben Haymaker taking the BC Ping Pong Champion title. If you missed out on ping pong more intramurals are heading your way next week. Starting Monday September 26th cards will be played at the Rec Room in the Gym starting at 7pm. Games like poker, UNO, squares, blackjack, you name it we’ll play it. Snacks and drink will be provided. CAB I CAMPUS ACTIVITIES BOARD iVliat i IS an I'm trying to promote people using bikes to get around town and bliij/d a communtiy through a fun event. Everyone is welcome to come participate. The way an alley cat works, the racers show up at the start with a bike, preferably with lights, dressed in your best zombie outfit. I'll be handing out maps at the start and once I say go folks can complete the course using any route they'd like. There will be five checkpoints on the map all with special challenges and "refreshments." I hosted a July race, and for one stop at the Red House Inn racers had to successfully flip a pancake in a skillet while running. Its all just for fun. The race will finish at the new Brevard Music Studio next to Jordan St cafe. We'll choose best costume and race "winner" there and have a metal show to celebrate with Issachar and Telic playing. The last race we had 70+ people show up and everyone had a great time. Race entry fee is $5 at Sycamore Cycles. - Dan Ennis, Host of the Alleycat I r 10 % AND POINTS
