25 hours of silence to end 25 years of war
Invisible Children is an organization that
fights for the suffering people of Uganda
and raises awareness about the problems and
issues there. BC is getting involved.
Last night BC Serves hosted an informational
meeting that told students about what Invisible
Children does and about what Brevard is
doing. The students in the meeting signed
their name saying that they will be silent for
25 hours to raise awareness of the going-ons
in Uganda.
Invisible Children is raising awareness
to stop the Lord’s Resistance Army's 23
year-long reign of terror creating an entire
generation of children that have never seen
peace. These children are being forced by
the LRA to fight on their rebel side against
the Uganda government at ages as young as

At the meeting last night a video was shown

this man and talked about trying to starve the
baby during her pregnancy because it was a
“living reminder of this horrific world.” The
film discussed how these illegitimate children
come into the world and a lot of times are
shunned and looked down upon by the people
because of the pain and suffering they seem
to represent.
Today the volunteers will come together
for a silent dinner at 5:30 and a game of
charades open to everyone will follow.
Everyone is encouraged to attend to show
support to Invisible Children and to help raise
awareness further After charades there will
be a debriefing to talk about what it was like
to be silent for 25 hours.

BC figlits against hunger
The week after next week marks
the beginning of National Hunger and
Homelessness awareness week. Brevard
College is honoring this nationally recognized
week by asking students to volunteer Nov.

Monday volunteers will prepare food at Bread
of Life from 5-7 p.m..
Tuesday the 14, participants visit The
Haven, a new homeless shelter in Transylvania
County. Last year students helped raise money
to help build The Haven.
Wed. the 15, Students will sit outside of
McLarty-Goodson donning cardboard boxes
with facts about poverty, raising awareness
with a more direct approach. Wednesday
evening, students meet in the Reserve
Dining Room and receive a ticket, they are
all different and will separate ticket holders
into the lower, middle and upper social-
economic classes. Depending on the ticket
you receive, you will have a very different
dining experience. Each class has a different
type of table different food to eat and then
discuss the differences between the meals.
Thurs the 16, there will be a bonfire and
campout on the lawn between Jones and
Coltrane.
