Nov. 11,2011 I The Clarion Sports Page 11 XC team named to SAC honors By Olivia Fawcett staff Writer The Brevard College Cross Country team is proud to announce that it had four members finish their season with All SAC Honors! The SouthAtlantic Conference Championship! The final race was held in Morristown Tennessee, at the Carson Newman course. From the men’s team, Joshua Mower earned a place in the Second Team All-SAC, placing 11th overall with an 8k time of 27:20, with an average mile pace of 5:30. Shortly behind was Bart Merkel, who finished 19th overall, with his best finish of the season at 27:35. Merkel finished 3rd overall among the SAC Freshmen competing, earning him a spot among the All-Freshman Team Flonors! The women’s team also had two members earn All-SAC Flonors. Freshman Madison Flill was the first Brevard College student to become the SAC Freshman of the Year honors. Finishing with a time of 19:38, Madison also earned All-SAC Freshman team and All-SAC First Team. With this being her first year at Brevard College, hopefully we will see more stellar finishes from Flill. Sophomore Angela Canale also earned All-SAC Flonors for her second consecutive year. Canale finished 11th overall, earning her a place, along with Joshua Mower, as a part of the Second Team All-SAC! Brevard College was one of five schools to have multiple runners in the All-SAC Flonors. Looks like all their training with renowned coach. Jack Daniels as well as their dedication and passion for running is finally paying off.
