Student-athletes of the month
Micheala Watkins of the Women’s Basketball
team and Aaron Reese of the Football team
have been named the Sports Spot Student-
Athletes of the Month for the month of
November, as recognized on WSQL 1240
AM on Wednesday afternoon. The award is
presented by Sports Spot, in conjunction with
the Brevard College Athletic Department.
Watkins was voted the Female Student-
Athlete of the Month by the BC Flead
Coaching staff over fellow nominees Ashlie
Morrison of the Volleyball team and Angela
Canale of the Cross Country team.
Watkins wins the award for the second
time in her career, having received Athlete of
the Month honors in January 2011. For the
month of November, Watkins led the team in
averaging 14.3 points per game and added a
team high 24 steals in pacing the Tornados to
a 4-2 start to the season. She scored double
figures in all six games in the month and added
two games with at least six rebounds, three
games with at least four assists and three games
with at least three steals. Watkins recorded her
best game of the season on November 26th
against Tennessee Wesleyan when the junior
guard scored 17 points, shooting 58.3 percent
from the floor, and added six rebounds, four
assists and two steals in the 85-65 victory.
Reese was voted the Men’s Student-Athlete

Men’s Basketball team and Josh Mower of the
Men’s Cross Country team.
Reese led the Tornados football team in
their final two games of the season, leading
the offense with 213 rushing yards and three
rushing touchdowns, while completing 53.1
percent of his passes for 190 yards and a pair of
scores against Catawba and Newberry. Reese
had 17 carries for 75 yards and a touchdown
against Catawba, going 7-for-13 through the
air for 101 yards and a score, and continued
his success against Newberry, picking up 138
rushing yards and 89 passing yards to go with
three total touchdowns against the Wolves.
Reese finished fifth in the SAC in rushing
yards per game and rushing touchdowns
and averaged 82.2 passing yards per game,
finishing third in the SAC with 10 touchdown
passes on the season.
These two athletes will be presented with
action shots recognizing their award, which
will be displayed in the lobby of Boshamer
Gymnasium for the entire school year A total
of eight female and male Sports Spot Athletes
of the Month will be selected in the 2010-2011
academic year. The award is selected from
qualified candidates each month by the athletic
department staff

All-
American
bowl
inductees
Three Brevard College Football players were
selected to the All-American Bowl to be held
onDecember 17,2011 at Mall of America Field
at the Metrodome in Minneapolis, Minn.
Prince Simunyu, Michael Gist and Christian
Lumbu have all been selected to represent
the Tornados in postseason action in a game
which will showcase some of the nation’s top
Division II and Division III college seniors, as
well as free agent football players.
Simunyu led the South Atlantic Conference
in tackles on the season with 111 stops in his
senior year, finishing up his career earning
All-Conference honors three times and was a
First Team All-SAC linebacker in each of the
last two seasons. Simunyu also finished his
career as Brevard’s all-time leading tackier
behind the line of scrimmage and finished
second in program history in stops behind
Stanley Jones.
Gist is a two-time recipient of First Team
All-SAC honors at safety and tied for third
on the team with 78 tackles, while recording
two interceptions on the year For his career.
Gist became the program’s all-time leading
interception leader, leading the team in picks
in three of his four years with the Tornados,
finishing with 11 overall, and also is the third-
leading tackier in program history.
Lumbu battled through an injury-plagued
senior season to finish second in the conference
with eight sacks and was fourth in the SAC
with 11.5 tackles for loss from the defensive
end position. During his time with the
Tornados, Lumbu became Brevard’s all-time
leader in sacks for a career and was among
the career leaders in tackles behind the line
of scrimmage.
The All American Bowl began in 1996 in
Minnesota. It is designed to bring together the
country’s top Division II and III college seniors
and free agents to compete in an All-Star bowl
setting. The All American Bowl has been held
annually at Mall of America Field at the HHH
Metrodome, as well as several other great
locations across the country like, Atlanta, Las
Vegas, Dayton Beach and Miami, Florida and
now Charleston, WV.
