This Sunday, Feb. 19, you won’t be able to deny them any longer because Blair Crimmins & The Hookers will be here in Brevard! Get ready for the sexy, cool, and crazy sounds of a ragtime piano and a gypsy jazz guitar! This is definitely going to be a show you won’t want to miss out on. Even if you have never heard of this band, as many people I’ve asked haven’t, it’s love at first listen for many. So put on your dancing shoes and 1920s swag and get ready for a night filled with an upbeat all around amazing sound! The gig will begin at 8 p.m. Sunday in Dunham Auditorium. Admission is free. See story, page 10 Brevard College juried art show opens Feb. 24 The Brevard College Art Department will host an opening reception for its juried student art exhibition on Friday, Feb. 24. The opening reception will be held from 5:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Brevard College's Spiers Gallery in the Sims Art Center. The presentation of awards will begin at 6 p.m. Paintings, photography and sculpture are just a few of the different types of artwork that will be on display. The show, which is open to all Brevard College students, will be juried by Asheville artist Joyce Blunk. Blunk is known for her assemblages that include natural and manmade items arranged in wooden boxes or on shelves. Awards will be given for Best of Show, President’s Choice and Students’ Choice as well as first, second and third places. Six honorable mentions will also be awarded. The reception and exhibit visitations are free to the public. Gallery hours are 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. weekdays when the College is in session. The exhibit will be on display until April 5. Spiers Gallery is a contemporary 1,500 square foot gallery located within the Sims Art Center on the Brevard College campus. Exhibitions in Spiers Gallery are ongoing throughout the year and include shows by Brevard College students and faculty members as well as visiting artists from Western North Carolina and around the country. Jacob Liske's “Perpetual Motion” sculpture was named last year’s Best of Show.
