www.brevard.edu/clarion Volume 78, Issue 23 Web Edition SERVING BREVARD COLLEGE SINCE 1935 March 15, 2013 SGA executive board election appiications due March 29 By Kyle Jackola StaffVVntei^_ SGA met with clubs on Tuesday night to discuss upcoming events for the last few weeks of the semester. BC Greens president Brandon DeNully an nounced a project to build picnic tables for the garden behind the caf to beautify the area and give students another place to hang out. “1 think it’ll make the area look nicer,” said DeNully. “It’s an area that’s seen a lot by the community so I want to make sure it looks “It’s an area that’s seen a lot by the community so I want to make sure it looks good.” good.” Anyone interested in helping build the tables should contact DeNully for more information. From the Debate Society, Burton Hodges requested money to buy gavels to use in future debates and to give as prizes to debate winners. Generally, the COM 380 class holds an open debate at the end of the fall semester that is judged and scored by members of the judicial community in Brevard. “We just want a more official look for the society,” said Hodges. “The gavels would really add an element that has been missing from past debates.” In addition to being used in debates, decorated gavels would also be given to the winners of each team as recogni tion for their hard work during the semester. Aside from club activities, the SGA also spoke more about the upcoming Spring For mal and SGA elections. At the last meeting before spring break, it was said proceeds from the Spring Formal would raise funds for a to-be-determined cause on campus. President Elise Labus announced at Tuesday’s meeting that proceeds from this year’s formal would go to the renovation of the pool area in the gym to convert it into another weight room for athletic teams. Converting the area to another weight room would alleviate crowding in the exercise room and current weight room, which aren’t big enough to accommodate entire teams for workouts. “This year it was the weight room,” said La- bus, “but next year the project will be voted on by the SGA. This means that if students have a particular project in mind to fund, they should attend SGA meetings to let their opinion be known.” Elections are upon us this month, and SGA is getting a head start in the application process. In this issue is a paper application with the listed requirements to run for office. Applications are due by March 29. After all of the applications have been submitted and looked over, open forums will be held for the students applying for cabinet positions to address campus issues in front of their peers.
