SGA Executive Board FA 14- SP15
President Vice- President
Burton Hodges
I was bom in Birmingham, Alabama, but I grew up primarily in
Charlotte and in Winston-Salem, NC. My Dad is an episcopal priest
so we moved a lot when I was younger, my family moved back to
Birmingham after I left for college so I don't really refer to an5rwhere
as "home." Brevard is closest to it. 1 moved to the area after an
unsuccessful first attempt at college at the University of Alabama and
I found Brevard College while taking a semester off and working in
Hendersonville.
I am a proponent of good beer, good scenery and good people, thus
Brevard is a perfect spot for me. I am an avid trail mnner and an
advocate of yoga. 1 am a die-hard Alabama football fan, have an acute
obsession with the Carolina Panthers, and I thoroughly enjoy a good
round of golf I swear by seeing live music, but I am not opposed to
some Tupac or John Coltrane depending on my mood. I love politics
but hate bad politicians, I aspire not to be one of those. I want to live
in India, learn Mandarin and never travel to Russia.

"Milk can do your body well, but I can do your student body better."
Seems like a lame catch phrase, but the impassioned humorist in me
thought it might get a laugh out of at least a few. In truth, I care so
much about Brevard College. This is my first full year, and I have loved
so much about this institution, but there is always more to ameliorate.
As Vice-President of Student Government, I will help put this school
in the direction of renewable energy. Throwing solar panels up on the
roofs of buildings is more complicated than it sounds, but sustainability
is a passion of mine. I feel as though helping to connect students to
the school would be great, and I know that sometimes it takes more
than joining a club to develop that connection. I will work with each
and every club at this school to reach and out hold more events for all
students to attend. In terms of the student government itself, I want to
create an environment where more votes are held, and more decisions
actually get made, so all you guys can see the great things we'll be
doing in the Fall. I wish I could write more, as I have numerous ideas
and plans to bring to the table as Vice-President, but hopefully this is
enough to get you excited about having someone as passionate and
realistic as me on the Executive Board. Bring any idea you have to
make Brevard College better directly to me, I want to have everyone's
voice represented in SGA. Keep your stick on the ice Tornadoes, and
God Bless the States.
