The BC men’s and women’s tennis teams
played Spartanburg Methodist College on
Thursday, March 14 at 1:30 p.m. at home. Both
teams had victories.
For the men, number one doubles was Tom
Mittring and Tim Hengst who won 8-0 against
Oliver Ellis and Joshua Lowe. Tyler Frazee
and Nathan Boepple lost to Stratas Anast and
Blaine Lawter at two doubles with a score of
4-8. Number three doubles forfeited for lack of
players for Brevard.
Mittring won number one singles 6-1, 6-1
against Anast. At two singles, Hengst beat
Lowe 6-0, 6-1. Frazee won three singles 6-1,
6-3 against Lawter. At number four singles,
Boepple beat J. Varner in a three set match
scoring 6-3, 4-6, 6-2. Andrew Ingram played
number five singles and also won in a three set
match against Ellis. Ingram scored 4-6,6-4,6-4.
Alex Glaze played six singles and won against
Noah Boykin in a three set match scoring 6-7,
6-3, 6-2.
Overall the boys won the match 7-2 for
Brevard.
The women also won their match against
Spartanburg. Sam Sepe and Kelsey Kushner
won number one doubles 8-1 versus Molly
Lawson and Courtney Bagwell. At two doubles
Darden King and Jen Cox beat Megan Lee and
Olivia Bennet 8-1. Margaret Correll and Kenzie
Bowman beat Grade Pall and Joana Londono
in a battle for a score of 8-6.
Sepe quickly won number one singles against
Bagwell 6-0, 6-0. At two singles Kushner beat
Pall 6-1, 6-1. King won against Bennet 6-0, 6-0
at three singles. Cox won four singles versus
Londono 6-2, 6-2. At five singles Correll fell
to Lawson 4-6 and lost the tiebreaker fo the
second set 6-8 making the second set score 6-7.
Eleanor Flannery played six singles against Lee
and won 6-0, 6-1.
Overall the ladies won 8-1 for Brevard.
On Saturday, March 16, Brevard played
Berea College at 12 p.m. in Berea, KY. Hengst
and Boepple won 9-5 in a ten point tiebreaker
to win the set 8-7 against M. Malpartida and
D. Marroco in one doubles. At two doubles
Frazee and Ingram beat 1. Perez and J. Chavez
8-2. Three doubles was forfeited by Brevard
for lack of players.
Hengst won one singles against Malpartida
6-0,6-0. At two singles, Frazee beat Perez 6-2,
6-1. Boepple battled in three sets at number
three versus Marroco but eventually lost. The
first set score was 7-3 in the tiebreaker, winning
7- 6, but he lost the second and third set 2-6,
4-6. Ingram battled for three sets against S.
Slater at number four but lost 2-9 in the first set
tiebreaker making it 6-7. In the second set he
won 6-0 but the third set he lost 2-6. Alex Glaze
lost five singles 0-6, 5-7 against J. Wener. The
sixth match was forfeited by Brevard because
of a missing player.
The men fought hard but lost 4-5.
The women played excellent matches as well.
Sepe and Kushner beat A. Dotse and J. Shryon
at one doubles 8-0. At two doubles King and
Cox won 8-0 against E. Goodpastor and E.
Nelson. Correll and Flannery won three doubles
8- 0 versus E. Garcia and S. Garsa.
Sepe won one singles 6-0, 6-0 against
Goodpastor. Kushner beat Dotse at two singles
6-3, 6-2. At three singles King beat Johnson
6-0,6-1. Correll played at four singles and won
6-1, 6-1 against Nelson. Flannery beat Garcia
at five singles 6-0, 6-0. Carmen Boone won six
singles versus Garsa 6-0, 6-0.
The women won the match with a massive
9- 0.
Overall the BC tennis teams won two matches
for the women and one for the men in the course
of three days.
Senior doubles partners Tom Mittring and Tim Hengst win doubles 7-0.
