Campus Life honors student leaders
The Office of Campus Life recognized a number of students for their
service and leadership at the Campus Life Student Leaders Awards
Ceremony on April 16.
New this year is the Sweezy Award. Named after Rakeem Sweezy, a
much beloved student and RA who died as a consequence of complications
from a previously undiagnosed diabetic condition on the last day of the
fall 2017 semester, this award is given to the student who shows a love
for BC, builds community and brightens a room when they walk in.
The first recipient of the Sweezy Award is Josh Romero.

Junior Leader of the Year: Audrey Cardwell
Senior Leader of the Year: Daniel Ethridge
Faculty/Staff Luncheon honors retirees
Employees ’years of service to the college also recognized
Five retiring faculty and staff members were among
the Brevard College employees who were lauded at the
Faculty and Staff Award Luncheon on Monday, May 6.
Three faculty members are retiring at the end of
this year: political communications professor Ralph
Hamlett, geology professor Jim Reynolds and health
science studies professor Mary Kay White.
All three have been named faculty emeriti by the
Brevard College Board of Trustees.
Also retiring this year are staff members Caron
Surrett, director of financial aid, and F ine Arts Division
administrative assistant Mary Wellborn.
