Find a reason to speak with them after class or during their office hours. They will remember and appreciate you for your initiative to seek advice outside of the classroom. 2. Be involved around campus! Whether you’re the student-body president or you write for the school paper (yes, this is an attempt to recruit new members), on-campus activities are a great way to stay busy and meet new people. You may even discover an unforeseen passion or talent. 3. Take advantage of the library! The academic resources offered at our campus library are incredible. From our student-led ELC (Experiential Learning Center) to the amazing library staff, there are plenty of people excited to help you. You're 4. Every interaction is an opportunity to grow! College is an amazing chance to learn not only from you professors, but from your peers as well. Use your energy wisely and soak up as much knowledge and wisdom as you can. We have two ears and one mouth for a reason; listen more and talk less. 5. The next four years will be over before you know it! Make the best of your time at Brevard College because the friends and memories you make here will shape the person you are to become. 6. Don’t be too hard on yourself! In the wise words of Bob Ross, “There are no mistakes, just happy accidents.” College is a time to figure things out, so don’t fret if life unfolds differently than you expected. 'Little Sliding Rock' secret As many may know. Sliding Rock is a huge tourist attraction to Pisgah National Forest and the town of Brevard during the summer time. It is known for its cool waters that refresh the skin during the summer heat of the North Carolina mountains and the adrenaline rush one gets while sliding down the giant, smooth rock. But, there are downsides to this natural wonder. The lines and cost to slide, for example. The lines on a busy day stagger down the giant rock and take forever to get up. Flowever, with a little hiking up a mountain, you can find Little Sliding Rock, everything you hoped it would be but better. There are no lines, it is in a more secluded area of the forest, there is refreshing water and a campsite literally two minutes away from it. Plus, there is no fee. Little Sliding Rock is in a beautiful part of the forest. There are huge trees everywhere, moss covered rocks, a watering hole that is perfect to wade in if you aren’t in the mood to go down the rock and a quiet, peaceful surrounding area. The rock is also great for children who aren’t ready yet for actual Sliding Rock. It is a quick, smooth and fun slide that is fast enough to give you a great adrenaline rush that leaves you wanting to go over and over again. Next time you think about going to Sliding Rock, you should check out Little Sliding Rock and hike a little to get a quieter, cheaper and more beautiful experience. — Lande Simpson
