Page 6 Opinion The Clarion \ August 21,2019 How many people will die before Trump finally steps in? By Breanna Queen staff Writer Twenty-nineteen is almost over and there has already been 225 mass shootings in the U.S. We will never do anything about this. It’s just how America is, we just push our problems to the side and pretend it never happened. We as Americans can never agree on a single thing so we will never resolve this problem. We never take responsibility for our actions. The mass shooting in Texas left America shook. I can’t believe that I live in this world that has so much hate. Just imagine if we shared love instead of hate; image if there weren’t any bullies, mass shootings, or people living in fear now. Americans die more in mass shootings or gun violence than anything else. It only took one school shooting in London for Great Britain to change its gun laws. In 1996, 16 children were killed along with their teacher. Before this shooting anyone in Britain could own a handgun. Just imagine if those handguns hadn’t been available, then 17 people would still be alive. It only took 18 months after the mass shooting for them to pass a law that bans private ownership of handguns. There has been a significant fall on gun violence. Around 20 to 25 people are murdered per year by a gun now in Great Britain. Compare that 20 to 25 in Great Britain to the USA where the count is 13,000. This problem that Americans have with lawmakers trying to change the first amendment is extremely ridiculous. The first amendment was written in 1992 but humans were not walking around shooting innocent victims in 1992 like they are right now in 2019. My question now is when will be the last mass shooting? When is Trump going to demand change in America? Crossword Puzzle! Test your campus knowledge by completing the puzzle below Across 6. Wilderness leadership acronym 7. Library acronym 9.
