Brevard College’s Harvest Festival returned
on Thursday, Oct. 24 2019, from 4;30 to 7:30
p.m. making this year the sixth in a row for the
widely loved event. Robbins Plaza outside of
Myers Dining Hall was packed with students,
community members, friends and faculty
enjoying the festivities.
There were many Brevard College staples in
attendance at this year’s festival, like the llamas
and the petting zoo, which are a yearly favorite.
The llamas were available for petting and an
occasional walk around campus and the petting
zoo had many goats, ducks, pigs, and rabbits.
The petting zoo was owned by Jackson Farm
Mobile Petting Zoo located in Hendersonville,
NC.
There were also other activities to do like
comhole and slack-lining as well as roasting
marshmallows over a campfire. The mechanical
bull returned from last year, challenging anyone
brave enough to ride and hold on.
Face painting was offered, featuring many
spooky and Halloween designs. There was also
an artist in attendance drawing caricatures.
The food at the Harvest Festival is always a
treat for the campus, in addition to the plethora
of food offered by Myers Dining Hall, there
were two food trucks serving food to anyone in
attendance. The first 200 students could redeem
a ticket for a free plate, courtesy of the college.
There were many sweet treats being offered
too, hot cocoa, apple cider, pumpkin rolls, apple
cider doughnuts and funnel cakes. The funnel
cakes were made fresh and toppings could
be added. The pie-eating contest was also a
challenge for many students wanting the prize
of a llama trophy.
Prize and exclusive gift opportunities were
being offered at the festival, with the pledge
to reduce waste on campus and a painted hand
print on a poster, you could receive a free,
multi-colored, reusable metal straw. Llama socks
were also being given away in exchange for five
canned foods.
Brevard College campus and student life is
happy to host such favorite events and looks
forward to hosting the Spring Festival next
semester.
