DUBENDORF, Switzerland - Brevard
College student-athletes Hannah Arensman
and Tyler Orschel will compete this weekend
at the UCl (Union Cycliste Internationale)
Cyclocross World Championships to be
held Saturday and Sunday in Dubendorf,
Switzerland.
Arensman, a senior from Valdese, North
Carolina, will represent the United States as a
member of Team USA. Orschel, a junior from
Uxbridge, Ontario, will race for Team Canada
for the second straight season.
Arensman, who also raced for Team USA in
the 2018 Cyclocross World Championships,
will be one of just three women representing
the United States in the U23 category in this
year’s championships. In total, Arensman is
one of 25 riders selected by USA Cycling for
this year’s team.
“We are very excited about all of the
athletes selected to compete in the 2020 UCI
Cyclocross World Championships,” said
USA Cycling Cyclocross Manager Jesse
Anthony. “We are lucky to have a large group
of dedicated, skilled and capable athletes
who will compete and after the successful
performances we saw during the USA Cycling
Development Program’s most recent racing
block over the holidays, I am optimistic about
our potential for success at this year’s World
Championships.
Orschel returns to the UCI Cyclocross World
Championships for the second consecutive year
after representing Team Canada at last year’s
event in Bogense, Denmark. This season,
Orschel is one of just two Canadians racing
in the U23 category and one of 12 overall
members representing Canada at the 2020
World Championships.
The World Championships will be the
culmination of a successful cyclocross season
for Arensman, Orschel and the Brevard
College Cycling program. The Tornados
finished second in the Team Omnium at the
2019 USA Cycling Cyclocross Collegiate
National Championships held in December in
Lakewood, Washington. Arensman, Orschel
and Tyler Clark produced a second-place finish
in the Team Relay, one year after a national
championship relay performance in 2019.
Individually at the 2019 Cyclocross Collegiate
National Championships, Arensman placed
third in the Women’s Varsity competition
turning some of the quickest laps of the day in a
comeback attempt following a first lap mishap.
Orschel finished in second place in the Men’s
Varsity cyclocross race at the nationals.
Start time for the U23 men’s race, with
Brevard College’s Orschel competing, is
set for 1 p.m. CEST/7 a.m. ET on Saturday.
Arensman will race in the U23 women’s race at
1 p.m. CEST/7 a.m. ET on Sunday. For more
